Whidden FL Sizer and Micrometer Seater Die Review

Folks,
I've been playing around with a set of 6BRDX dies from John Whidden (including some pre-production half-thou incremented tapered expanders). These dies are really, really good. Great match to my BRDX chamber. The dies produce very straight ammo and the seater controls are precise (and very close to 1:1 -- when I spin the top 10 units, I get very close to a .010" change in seating depth). Very nice fit and finish. John can also make a non-bushing FL sizer with the neck bored to your dimensions. I'll probably order one of those too.

I have just received a set for my Dasher - very very well made, as Forum Boss said, they are a "great set of dies"
Plus good to support JW,

Whidden is top notch guy to deal with and his work is great. If you have any questions or needs call him directly and he will more than help you out

Bozo,
Re seating die -- I've always been a hand die (and arbor press) kind of guy. But I can't see how it would produce better results than the Whidden seater. Gun is shooting really, really small. I'd probably have to shoot 100 rounds loaded with each to get a real good Hand Die vs. Whidden seater answer. The concentricity is good with the Whidden seater used in a Harrell's press which has precision ground top surface so the die sits really straight. If you used the seater in an old flexy turret press etc. YMMV.

Boss,

Thanks for the heads up! Looking at the image you posted, am I correct be saying that the dies are modified/tuned and improved Forster Dies? The box changed color too! Hey, I swear by Forester Ultra Micrometer sitting die but always has to mix and match to get Redding FL Bushing die to complete my set. I have been using some of John's product and very happy with them and their service is second to none.

No... that's not fair to say. Whidden Gunworks makes their own dies. Forster does supply some raw components, but all the critical machining etc. is done by Whidden's operation.

I need a full length sizer for my 284 Shehane for when my bolt gets a difficult to open and close. However, I still want to size the neck with my Wilosn die. Can I use the bushing sizer without the bushing to simply resize the body?

That's good to know, Boss. I am not trying to discredit John with my observation. In someway, he has reinvented the wheel by improving on a product which were good in the first place. Well done, Whidden Gunworks!
