6BRA ?

I see the 6Dasher & 6BRX mentioned a lot and was wondering what the difference is between these and the 6BRA ? Didn't find a schematic or drawing of it anywhere here.

The BRA is simply an Ackley Improved BR.
Just straighten out the the body taper a tad, and give it 40* shoulders.

The Dasher is the same thing except way cooler.
It is about .080” longer, base to shoulder.

I THINK a BRX is simply a Dasher with 30* shoulders????

They are all accurate, none of course, as accurate as the Dasher. :)

The 6BRA is popular because the neck/shoulder junction is basically the same as the 6BR, so fireforming is very easy and effective because it follows Ackley's conventions.

6 Dasher and 6BRX are also great cartridges but the necks are shorter than 6BR, meaning that you may need to fireform twice and/or use expanders to make a false shoulder for fireforming.

6BRA is overdue to be added to the 6 BR Improved article of this site - it's been about as popular as 6 Dasher for a few years now.

So far with my ODCR 6BRX my best accuracy has been with

107 Sierra MK 2980 fps 31.8 VARGET 5-shot gp. .084 10 shot gp. .248
105 Berger VLD 3003 fps 31.8 VARGET 5-shot gp. .196 5-shot gp. .142
95 Berger VLD 3100 fps 33.2 RL-15 5-shot gp. .147 5-shot gp. .208

My chamber neck diameter is .272 and I'm using Peterson Brass un-turned with loaded neck diameter .269
I believe these loads are near max if not max in this brass. At 32.0 gr. of Varget the groups begin to open up and with 33.4 gr. of RL-15 the 95 gr. do as well so no need to push it any harder. Happy with the rifle.

Very Capable 6mm improved version. My buddies wife uses hers to shoot LR 1000yd steel targets & finishes very high each season with her light rifle.

I'M getting about 2950 in my 6BRA with a 28" barrel, 112 g match burners. 29.5 g of H4895, cci450's. I have about 350 rounds thru the barrel. Gun is about .20" 3 shot group. My first 6mm and am very happy with it so far.
Fire forming is easy using 6br Lapua , haven't lost a case yet.

I found that the top node IMO with the BRA was with RL15. I DID back it down to 2960ish, my accuracy was good and the brass lasted a bit longer........28" barrel & Hunter 106's.

I've been shooting 6BRA for 1000 and 600 yard bench rest for the past 2 years.

Running Borden BRX on 28 inch Krieger barrel.

Getting 2870 fps with N140 31.14 gr. Alpha Munitions brass. BR4 primers. Vapor Trail 103 gr bullets. Based on my results, I see no need to push it faster. More important issues like learning to read the wind better seem more important factors in my results.

Usual local match results 0.4-0.75 MOA at 600 and 1000. Five shot groups. Best 5 shot group was 2.7 inches at 1000.

Just shared for information's sake.

I am shooting as well or better than my peers using 6.5 or 7mm platforms.

I really love this caliber for its accuracy and low recoil. I trade rankings with a friend shooting a 6 Dasher.

My position at present is to find a node that works and shoots tight groups (<0.5 MOA is my goal). Then learn to read the wind and perfect my shooting basics and reloading.

I just installed a new 1:7.5, 28” Bartlein 6BRA on my Kelbly’s Atlas. I am just using some loaded ammo from my old barrel 107SMK, 32.3gr Varget, Peterson brass (3 firings). I am averaging 2,985fps (Garmin). The barrel only has 40 rds through it. No pressure signs other than I am getting some clickers.
