6BRA Primers

Yes, I tested at 200m initially and found the best powder charge and seating depth then went to 400m which is the extent of that range..
Primers—the 400s blanked more with further testing after shooting the initial groups in the pic above..I liked the elevation with the 450s at 400m so I retested with more jump and more jam and ended with 8jam to tighten groups up with the 450s at 400m.

Edit- my initial seating depth was 5jam.
I've had good results with both 450 and BR4 primers with H4895, RL15 and 105gr bullets. Accuracy-wise and velocity-wise there's buggerall in it - both powders and primers will shoot clean with ease provided I do my part. Velocity wise I'm sitting around 2970-2980fps with 30.4gr of H4895. Barrel is a 30" Krieger, 1:8 twist 5R.

Were these the Berger 105 Hybrids, 105 VLD's, or 108 BT's?

105gr VLD hunting and 108gr BT. Need to be careful with the BTs due to the longer bearing surface, if you jam them, pressure will spike and can screw your cases quick. I ran a moderate load of 30.4gr of H4895 and several primers literally dropped out of the cases on extraction so I'd be more inclined to jump the BTs since they're generally easy to tune.

Good information. Appreciate the insight.

With 31.0 of H4895 and EPS 106's @ .008 in, Every CCI 400 was all but blanked (20)..same load with 450's they All looked perfect (30), and shot good..won't go to the line with the 400's...YMMV

I had 15 or so blank, a shame to because they shot well..
There’s a few BRAs blanking 400s. No problems with 450s here either.

I had good luck with Federal 205's with both H4895 and RL-15..... Bart is having good luck with Wolf. But they aren't making them anymore..... jim

Do you know which of the Wolf primers he is using? I have a bunch of both the Wolf SR standard (copper colored cup) and the Wolf SRM which has a brass colored cup. I think someone told me the wolf magnum had a thicker cup

Wolf SRM, the first were silver. The later ones were brass colored. The standard were a thiner cup..... Bart I'm sure is using the brass colored Small Rifle Magnum ...... jim

Thanks I have 20K of the SRM. and 3 K of the old standard SR. I will give the SRM a try.

Resurrecting a good, relevant thread (I think).

I've been trying to get my new 6BRA tuned. Tried Federal GM205M and CCI BR-4 primers running H4895 ladders between 30.0 and 31.0 gr behind 105 Berger Hybrids seated at .010 jam. Lapua brass, fired 4x and induction annealed. Then I tried 450's "because everyone else is doing it". I didn't pierce (blank) any of the 450 primers but about half of them were extruded around the firing pin, some with as low as 30.2 gr. I didn't notice it right away because I had barely any other pressure signs.

If this was a basic factory action I'd assume it's the pin fit and have the bolt bushed. But this is a new action from a longtime custom action builder. Name withheld in case I should go to them for technical support.

So this suggests that out of those three, the 450's are the least tolerant of pressure by a large margin (0.8 grains). That just doesn't seem right. I have not tried 400's but clearly I should avoid them.

I'll admit I'm new to 6BR* game - so I'm looking for ideas of what to check and explore next.
