Lawence there really is not a perfect selection in regard to .236 or .237 I've shot both with success really small. as far as grooves I really feel the same pick one conventional land or a canted variant I've shot them all the 4 groove would be my personal standard in which all others are judged but feel odd no. land and groove naturally center each other out better than even no of land and grooves but have shoot all well. i feel i have better results with barrels that have a tapered contour vs strait. button or single point cut both shoot well as long as lapping heat treat and other things are some what equal. to say each manufacture barrel handles the same in my shop would simply be false but if given a non byes chance most will shine. 8 twist by default simply because so many 105 class bullets work well with 8 twist.Aside from loads,
What barrel specs are preferred for the BRA? 7, 7.5 or 8 twist? Barrel length? .236 or .237 bore? 5r or 4 groove? HV profile or straight?
I had a few rounds left from yesterday's 300 yard match and the weather was completely different today, so I shot a 5-shot group at 200 yards. The temperature today was very warm and unlike yesterday there was bright sunshine. The wind was a headwind from about 10 to 12 o'clock and varied from 5 to 10 mph. I was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy obtained today. PS- The barrel is a 28" Brux 4-groove cut rifling in 8 twist. The rifle is a BAT B with Terry Leonard stock and 36X Valdada scope.Although I have not won with my relatively new 6 BRA, I am getting closer. Yesterday, I shot it for the first time at a 300 yard match (30 shots for score on IBS target) and finished with a 297/3X. The winner had 297/4X. My load was 31.6 gr. Varget/CCI 400 and Bart's 105 VLD Infinity seated about .005 into the lands. In 2 weeks I will use it at 600 with the same bullet but with H4895 powder.
Your question applies equally to anything shooting the 105 class of bullets. A BRA is not going to like a different barrel than a Dasher for example. The majority of big wins and records have been 4 groove 237 8tw. Kriegers. I also chamber them 10 to 1 vs. everything else. I do feel like Krieger does a very good job of putting out a consistent barrel. I do prefer a conventional land vs a 5r, but Broughton and Rock creek are the exceptions to that. I do not have strong preference between cut or button. They each have things I like and things I dont. Lilja has been doing really well with one of his 3 grooves at our matches, and Glenn with his Rock Creek 4H. All vastly different but all shooting very well. Go with what your smith prefers.Aside from loads,

I’ve been playing with my new Lab lately, haven’t had it long but am wondering if you don’t have it in exactly the same position as previously used it may give a different speed reading, still gives a consistent average each time just slightly different to last lot of readings with same load?Last fall, before a match, I ran this load by a Labradar and it showed it speeds of 2963-2972. Averaging ~2969.
Approx. 350 rounds later.... Last month, before another match, I ran this same load by a Labradar and it showed it running consistently around 2925. Not sure what's up with that?....oh well...
This load has been shooting well so I generally don't pay too much attention to the speed that shows up on the Labradar.
Any idea what speeds your getting with 31.5gns of Varget?I won my two local matches on Saturday/100 and 200 UBR and Sunday was a 100,200 And 300 score match.
