6bra Eldx oal varying when seating

MDT6BRA

The other day I was loading some 90gr eldx for my 6bra and my oal length from base to ogive was pretty much exactly the same from shell to shell. Today I am getting lengths varying up to 5 thou. Any ideas? Whidden dies, lapua brass

If you are loading something different and/or the bullet is touching the powder before it is to the desired depth that will almost always have an affect on seating variations.

You may be able to push the handle down more than once while rotating the case each time and solve the issue if its not compressing too much. If not I guess you will just have to take your time and work with each one.

I tried adjusting and you could hear a pop, I’m assuming powder crunching and then the length would be 2-5 thou short. Lol chasing my tail

Another thing to try is once the press handle is bottomed out stop and hold it for dwell a few seconds. This has worked for me in the past.

The elds will vary slightly due to difference in length of the polymer tips. I’ve run into that from time to time measuring OAL. For peace of mind I use a comparator and measure to the ogive. If you are touching/crunching powder that will do it too. When I’m loading loads that the powder is up into the neck or there is a chance of bullet and powder touching or compressing. I’ll cover the mouth of the case with my finger and touch the case to my vibratory tumbler for a few seconds. It helps to settle the powder

I use suggestions # 4 and #6 all the time now. Yeah, it slows things down but they have improved my seating depth consistency alot. As a matter of fact, I owe many of you a debt of gratitude for the many ideas that I've gained, thanks to your sharing. I hope to be able to some day help others as much as you all have helped me.
The jury is still out on neck or bullet lubricating. Some times it seems to improve seating depth consistency and some times it doesn't.
