6bra and 8208

after looking on this site Ive seen some discussion on the use of 8208
any input would be helpful as this is my thoughts ,currently shooting 28" krieger 8 twist with 4895 @ 30.1 in lapua brass and barts 103s @ 2920 fps
I am planning on loading 3 each at 28.5-28.7-28.9 29.1 29.3 29.4 29.5 29.6 29.7 29.8 for testing @ 100yds using barts 103s at previous jump of .018 off watching for pressure and noting how and where they group

I don't know much to anything about 6BR , but I can say, 8208XBR made my service load and my match rifle load come to life!
I did the 6.5 guys load development test, 10 shots, and was done.
The powders burn rate is very close to 4895, seems to meter ok for me.
I hope this helps ya

I used it in a similar set up. Only difference was a Lederer barrel. My 6BRA had a 120FB. Same bullets and brass. I did a ladder from 29.6-31.4. Velocities were:
29.6 2856
29.8 2872
30.0 2882
30.2 2900
30.4 2910
30.6 2934
30.8 2940
31.0 2966
31.2 2975
31.4 2998
Pic below is how I do my ladders and seating depth shot at 550yds. May look confusing but works for me.

Makes sense to me Rich, if I was to shoot 800 yards or less IMR 8208 likely would be my go to powder to start a tune.

Looks normal to me Rich.

i remember a lady shooter about 6 years ago winning a 1000 yard event with
a 6 dasher using 8208 when several others were using Varget and a couple
other variants.
I remember reading it on the IBRSA Long Range Results with equipment lists that I used to follow closely.
She and her husband used to travel around the country and compete.

I like your test. What was your final decision for load? Curious

You and @newbieshooter test similar ;)

I can see the load, but maybe not the seating...

I did some smaller tests after this to verify. Settled on:
30.26gr of XBR
BR4s .008" in
Annealed
Bart 103 Hammer's at 1.792 (jumped)
That load shot pretty good for me at Deep Creek in August last year but it needs to be retuned. I screwed the barrel off and it is in my stack of things to get to. Think I can get it up close to 32.0 and will try the Barts jammed. Maybe a winter project.

Those chrony numbers are extremely close to what I got with 108 Bergers and 8208 XBR in my 6 BRA. I started at 29.4 and stopped at 31.4. I started seeing some pressure signs on the upper end, so I chose 30.3 at 2905.

I shoot mostly 400 yards and less and absolutely love 8208 in 6BR and BRA. If I could have only one powder, that would be it. I don’t chase the speed, running about 28.5 & 29.6gr, respectively. In my current bra barrel, a 26” broughton, that gets me 2,878. Seems to hold tune well enough for the informal matches I shoot. I’m in DFW- 450-ish ft and Hot/ dense. Had best luck with Tula and Wolf primers, a .261 bushing in (.265 loaded neck in .268 chamber), & cramming the 103VT in there a lot deeper than most. Too dumb to anneal with fire and too cheap to go the induction route so I gave up on that a few years ago.

Just shot charge initial weight for pressure only went to 30.2 with velocity within 6fps though not your results . Tested in some alpha brass for pressure with 2 shots each with 29.2 and 29.4 one holing. Power shows promise of working well
