6BR with 55 Varmageddon and LT32 (first load tests)

This is my new zero freebore barrel. It is a Krieger 13.5 twist. I was kind of shocked by the speeds and the accuracy is outstanding. I have not hit hard bolt lift yet, primers (205m) look great.

Keep in mind this was far less than ideal load testing conditions. Hot and humid with very constant mirage wobble, and gusting winds from the 4 o'clock.

I think that 32.9 is a node, and you will notice the POI is very constant across all of the charges, so I think I found a good seating depth (4 thou in from touch). I think there is another node above these. I do use moly bullets.20180610_212547.jpg

I was kind of surprised no one would be interested to see the 6BR here getting 22-250 velocities. I know I was surprised. I worked for most of a whole season back in the day to get the 55 Noslers to perform at 3950 with Win 760 and mag primers in the 22-250 and the barrel life was short The 6BR is doing it quite easily with LT 32. I would suspect the barrel life is much much better too.

Those are great speeds. I built a 6x6.8 a few years back and shoot the 55g varmageddons at 3589 fps and your loads are even faster. I wanted to run close to or at 22-250 speeds, but use less powder and have a longer barrel life. Im vary happy with my build like you are with yours. Great groups. It will make p-dogs fly!

Congrats!

29.3g looks like a winner, Hotter primer may get rid of the vertical in the group, but only trial and error can tell. You can see the wind in your groups, good shooting!

While you are playing with the light weights, try a 58g V max and a 60g Sierra, as one of these bullets are going to make you go shoot in a registered benchrest match!

I think 32.9 looks like the node that would be the one to work with. Need to really find the seating depth sweet spot and I really haven't done that yet. That will be the real group shrinker.

The conditions were far from ideal for shooting small. The target was moving all over the place.

Don't discount the Varmageddon. In my 1-8 Savage 223A the Varmageddon will shoot right there with the Berger and Fowler.

I found I got unexplained flyers with the 6mm 55 varmageddon FB tipped (in several different calibers), the 6mm 70's and 22 cal 53's and 55's work great though. Prefer the 58g zmax for the cheap 6mm lightweight.

Std 6BR can fling the lights and still get great case life.

Were you jamming the 55 Varm with a short FB?

Sorry didn't see this. No jam on the 55's, CIP freebore (.093"). Can jam 58's and up. Get quite a bit more case capacity than a zero FB. 58's worked best with a very slight jam.

If you want more speed try AA2200, start about 31g.

I have thought that a 20 nozler opened to 6mm might be the ticket ?

55, 58, 60, 65g bullets in the 6 BR are just unbelievably accurate, and my freebore is ZERO, 13 and 14 twist barrels. I had one in a 15 Twist that was really fast.

tiny bug holes abound!

aa2230, H335

equal 6000+ rounds of barrel life starting off at a zero freebore chamber

This is a great round to put on a used 24" benchrest take off barrel that was previously a 6 PPC.

Put a tuner on that barrel, be ready for the shock of your life!

I have been doing that for 20 years. Usually get 3000 rounds good enough for pdogs.
