6br & wilson seat die question

Ok I hope this isn't so silly of a question. I am going to have a varmint rifle built in 6BR using a 262 neck. I ordered a reading FL bushing die and a Wilson seat die. My question is this. If i need to use a bushing to FL size the brass why dont i need a bushing seater die. Isn't it kinda generic to use a standard wilson hand seat die on a tight neck case? Will i have run out trouble? Will the body of the case line up the case in the die corectly? Am i thinking about this to much, or is this one reason why folks have custom dies made? This is going to be a hunting rig so maybe this isnt a huge deal, but it does have me thinking. Does anyone care to elaborate? Also is the FL bushing die the right thing to do or do i just need to neck size? I have been using this combination of dies for most of my chamberings so i want to make sure i am doing it correctly. I really like my results with the redding FL bushing die and the Wilson seat die thus far. Thanks as always Lee

Also what bushing would you recommend i use for the 262 tight neck 6BR. I was kinda thinking 3 thou constriction, or 4??

Skeetlee,

I am a novice when it comes to precision reloading, but I use a FL sizer to bump the shoulder of my dasher about 1 thou each firing. That is done using a redding die with a 2 thou smaller bushing than loaded round diameter. I have no problems keeping the group in the 0.5 -0.7 moa range out to 1000 yds. I would think that the wilson die with a properly prepared case would not have any more runout than any other die. That is my few cents worth. Remember, opinion are like butt holes, everybody has one and some of them stink.

I wish i didnt have to go with the 262 neck but thats what the rifle is. I also have a butt load of brass already turned for 262 6BR I hate to waste them. I am going to build a rem 700 varmint with a shilen match barrel and i will also use the 262 neck on a 6br again, just because i have so much brass. The rifle will be a hunting rifle so i am not sure i need a custom die but i will probably go that route anyway.
The hole 262 neck thing had me thinking. If i needed a bushing to size the case then it only made since that the seater had the same inside dimensions. I guess its not necessary? The Wilson seater will work on a 272 6br so that means there is 10thou slop when i put a 262 6br case up inside it. I didnt know if that would effect accuracy or cause run out. I suppose the body of the case is what holds it center? Just trying to learn something here fellas. Thanks as always!!! Lee

As usual you're over thinking again.

Benchresters for years have used the Wilson seaters. The body is supported, not the neck. You couldn't seat a bullet with a hold on the neck. Straight rounds are an accumalation of a series of several steps.

Just bumping your shoulders back a thou or so is just fine with your FL bushing die. If you had a neck die you could just neck size till they got snug, then FL. My match ammo, I anneal and FL every time.

Bushing needs are dependant on loaded round measurements and are part of the tuning process. Or, put another way, what do your necks mic at in tenths? What do your bullets measure at the pressure ring, in tenths? How much clearance do you, or are gonna run? Not really a pat answer without all the info.

Also, don't worry about the .262. Shoot it.

Like i said, I figured i was putting to much thought in to all this, but i just wanted to be sure. I take my loading very seriously and hate mistakes. thanks for all the help. I really do appreciate it!! Lee
