6Br Varmint Load?

Got this new 6 Norma Br rig together. 28" 1 in 8 twist. Haven't started loading any varmint loads yet and looking for ideas to consider. Will be shooting long range. 800 to 1000yds and then some if successful. Will need a good bullet to tear up a tough old Pa groundhog.

105 grain Hornady A-Max will take care of any Chuck I've seen! Nomad shot a bunch of OH Chucks with them at a long ways off. I use them in my 8tw .243AI but 1K yard shots are hard to come by in SE PA so my small calibers see more time afield.

Out past 800 I wouldn't even consider anything other than a 105 class bullet. I wanted to shoot a 105 A Max but mine is a tack driver with a 107 SMK and it gets the job done.

Do you get many crawl offs with the SMK's?

Thanks for all the advise. Thought maybe someone might suggest something I had overlooked. I am thinking the 105 A-max will probably be it, but I'll see. With so many of us shooting long range I'm surprised no one makes a varmint bullet over 100gr.

I've been thinking the same thing for a while!

nice picture ,I just had built a 6 br 1-8 twist smk 107 group the best so far ,what twist is your barrel.

I have a criterion 1:8 twist that really likes the 87 vmax's, but I like 105 amax's (R.I.P.) for long distance and windy days.
