6BR Short ???

This cartridge has a name. It is a 6 Talldog. It was developed, I believe, by Fred Hasecuster and I forget the other person sometime maybe in the 90's when 220 Russian brass was scare. I know this is a little vague, but I've been asking for a couple of years and this is what I have so far. I had one 6 Talldog barrel on a Panda and won a few matches with it, still have one other somewhere that I've not shot. It will shoot with a 6 PPC. The downside is the brass is a hassle to make. If you have the time, it's not difficult, just takes several steps.

I'm one that likes to try oddball stuff, but for a normal person it's much simple to just shoot a PPC. As I said, I still have one barrel and the dies. I'll probably do it again sometime. I may even have a reamer ground.

I use the shade tree forming set. I believe pbike257 makes this as well. I bet there is a better way to make them. I mostly wanted to comment that good on you mr big for experimenting and good on you greyfox for not spewing the usual negative detergent towards wildcats that require more work than Joe Schmoe is using and why being lazy is so much smarter. Yes I have three 6 PPC's and yes they are accurate and yes they are easy to prep. Is a 6mm BR -.085 more accurate? I don't know haven't tried it but I'm glad you are. I have lots of experimental one off reamers so I know the fun. Good luck.

Re: 6BR Short x .100"

I need some one to make up about 20 to 40 case that I am willing to purchase for a BR rifle that is chambered to 6BR x .100: short.
The gun shoots great in the zero's. I have moved form another country and my reloading equipment and form dies are locked up until some time next spring. Adopted son and father in-law want to shoot with me and my only and only 6 PPC.
I would be up to renting and or purchaeing some forming dies in the short term.
Can any one out there help me and my fimaly for the short term?
Thanks
Alm

anybody ever tried running a 6BR reamer in short enough that the BR case would hold the same amount of powder as the PPC case,,and if so how much short did you try and how did it shoot?

thanx for any thoughts,,
Eric,
Did you try the Talldog?
If so, what were your results?

Thanks

I decided to give it a go

The arthritis in my fingers is a real bugger. I can pick-up and handle BR cases, but PPC cases are tough.

That’s exciting Clay! I would love to hear about it when you get it going.

I chickened out and decided to start out with a 22 PPC and not attempt a 22BR short just yet. Some playing with Gordon’s Reloading Tool got me a little concerned that I was getting into the no-man’s land between 4895 and the Benchmark for ideal burn and might struggle to get good performance out of a 27gn case capacity but it’s still an itch in the back of my mind. Next barrel I will probably take the leap unless the 22 PPC completely underwhelms me and I decide I need more velocity instead of less.

I remember reading about the 6mm Talldog, Dick Wright used to shoot it and write about it in Precision Shooting........Kiwi

Exactly!
My reamer should be here in a week or two.
I put a 40* shoulder on my Talldog and gave it a 6br neck length with a .273” neck diameter.
Several of the “ppc gang” I spoke with said if Remington had came out with a 6 br from the start, you would see a bigger variety of cartridges on the line today. Most said the Talldog and Waldog will hang with any ppc, but the extra step or two in brass prep is what turns folks off.
I plan to run both of the above mentioned cartridges in ‘24 for whatever matches I manage to attend.

Looking forward to your report. I had fantastic results with my .22 Waldog! Cases were a bitch to make. Lol!
