6BR Remington and 6BR Norma

At the risk of exposing my ignorance> what is the difference in the 6BR Remington and the 6BR Norma. Thanks a lot..........

There may be others also, but the chamber in the Norma is cut to accept longer(heavier) bullets than the Rem.

No the cases are not the same. This subject has been discussed here dozens of times, but here goes again:

Remington came out with the original 6BR cartridge, and a few years later Norma came out with their version. But to avoid patent infringement, Norma changed the case dimensions making it all but impossible to chamber a Norma case in a Remington chamber. The Remington case was 1.520" o.a.l., while the Norma case was 1.560", too long to fit in the Remington chamber. They (Norma) also made the case head diameter about .002" larger in diameter than the Remington.

Shortly thereafter, Lapua, in agreement with Norma I suppose, came out with their brass, same dimensions as the Norma.

With the proper barrel twist, you can shoot a heavy weight bullet in the Remington chamber, same as you can the the Norma/Lapua dimensioned chamber.

Thank you very much....I just started using this board on a regular basis and I have found that I like it very much...I try not to ask questions that have been Hashed out in the past. I have three 6BR rifles and have used this cartridge for about 12 years. MY reamer has a total length of 1.560...I have never used any Rem 6BR brass so I didn't know that at one time it was shorter. I see on the Hodgdon site that they show loads for the 6BR Rem. (not Norma) and some of the reloading manuals show loads for the 6BR Rem., which is why I ask. Thanks again for clearing that up for me.

And the die manufacturers continue to label the die box's as 6BR Remington, adding to the confusion.
That chambering is all but obsolete.

Since the interior powder capacity of the case was not changed ( how much change could there be with the case head being approx. .002" larger diameter), then loading info should be identical. If I had any Remington brass (why bother?) I'd load it the same as I do the Lapua.

PM sent

When I first acquired my 6BR Norma I used low end 6BR Remington load data to work up the load I was looking for and it all worked out quite nicely.
