6BR or 6 BRX barrel length

26" - 30" works fine.

FYI, with Jackie Schmidt we did a barrel cut-down test from 33" to 28". Total velocity reduction was 40 fps, or 8 fps per inch. And the rate of speed change was a pretty constant 8 fps/inch.

I tell people to go with a 28" or 29". That way if, god forbid, you chamber is botched, you'll still have 26 usable inches if it has to be rechambered. Lynn Dragoman likes the 30-inchers because he can reach a higher velocity node. Richard Schatz set a world record with a 26" but that was a DAsher.

I would look at the 6mmBR and the 6mm Dasher as dies are available for both to correctly size the whole case the BRX is hard to get correct fitting dies for. Now for barrel length 26 to 28" i run a 26" Dasher and i have built 30" rifles but they are not better than the 26-28" ones but some people want them to cut 4" off on a rechamber and still have a 26" barrel you can do this with a 28" and just cut off 2" it also depends on your weight linit my rifle was just under 17 pound where it had to be and a longer barrel would made me overweight.

Thanks for the info! I was looking at a sale that Miday currently has on Savage varmint taper heavy barrel .243 caliber barrels at around $85,blued chrome molly). They are only 24".

So, if I wanted one to have re-chambered in 6br, I am already too short,I am talking about a barrel...;))

I have a 17 inch lilja barrel with a tight neck in a 6br for varmint hunting. I get right about 3650-3700 fps with 55g ballistic tips and accuracy that is right at 1/4 to 1/2 in at 200yds. I know that is not what some people get with the br, but it is more than deadly on vermin. RG

Ok for a hunting rifle go for it i have a remington VLS that was a factory 243 when new it was trued, pillar bedded rechambered to 6mmBR 271 nech and barrel cut to 22" and recrowned with the trigger adjusted. it is perfect as i use it for hunting off a 4wheel bike and out of a vehicle spot lighting my father has a Sako with the factory barrel just rechambered and the barrel at 23" they shoot verry well but not optimal for long range target shooting you should be able to go up to a 90gr boat tail in that barrel ok for targets but the 55 and 70gr BlitzKings and benchmark are awsome in mine with sub 1/2" goups at 100 normal. Stick with a 271 or 272 neck no turn 6mm BR in that barrel go for it.
