6br or 243 pros and cons.

Well my 243 gave it up to the ghost in a f class match yesterday. I new it was close but wanted to shoot one more match with the last of the loaded ammo I had. I am debating converting to a 6br. I shoot mid range f class with this gun sometimes long range f class and varmints. I would have to buy a barrel brass and dies to convert. Is it gonna be worth it? Thanks, Matt

What is midrange? The 6br is a great cartridge but it may not be enough, maybe a 6.5x47 lapua could help with long range accuracy. Are there any restrictions on caliber?

Get the best of both worlds chamber a 6mmBRX.

Uses fire formed Lapua 6mmBR brass, Varget powder, Small Rifle magnum Primers, 105 Bergers, or 107 Sierras, 1:8, 32" barrel.

Great components, inherent accuracy, low recoil, long barrel life, great at midrange or longrange.

If you want to stay with the 6mm, there is nothing more accurate or holds more records than the 6mm dasher. If you are firm with the .243 or 6br, the 6br will give longer barrel life and better accuracy. Theres also the 6xc and 6x47L to consider.

For mid-range F-Class, IMO there is no finer choice than the 6BR - Crazy accurate, easy to shoot, easy to load for, and long barrel life. If you want a little more speed, a BRX or Dasher.

Compare muzzle velocity for any 6mm bullet coming out of a .243 and a 6BR of any variant. Ask yourself why you are burning so much more powder and wearing out your barrel with a .243 when the 6BRs will launch the bullet at virtually the same speed with less powder.

Wondering what weight bullet and barrel twist your .243 had and what you liked most and disliked most about it? I think this info would help us suggest which other cartridge would be better.

It was a 9 twist factory barrel. I shot the 95vids at 3050. It was scary accurate within its life. It was a hummer. I have never had a factory barrel like this one. But barrels are expendable so time to buy another. I am not that hung on a 243. I just like the speed and accuracy that it has. I think I can attain that with the 6br. I like the other Wildcats but hate fireforming and the like. I have been there in the past. What is a good no turn chamber? Thanks for the replies guys. Matt

With a 8 twist and a 30" barrel you should get close to 2950 with a 105 and a 6BR. I like the 8 twist and the heavier bullet. This would be real close to your 243 with a lot less powder and a barrel that will last longer. I can easily get 3050 plus with my Dasher but it won't last quite as long as a 6BR. Matt

The name of this site is 6mmbr.. that should tell you something.

Not for a few years now, but it's a valid point.

6BR for no-fuss, 6 Dasher if you don't mind fireforming (it's really simple and the FF loads are nearly as accurate as the full-blown loads).

Either one with a .2704 no-turn neck will make you a happy camper.

Thanks for the replies,
I think I will go with the strait 6br Norma for now. I can always set back to one of the others at a later date. I am gonna have to save some money for a few months and get a barrel on order and buy some dies and brass. What dies do yall run on the 6br no turn? Thanks, Matt

Good choice. I shot a 243win for a few years in F-class before switching to a 6BRX. The 6BRs are noticeably more accurate/reliably accurate and the barrel life is quite a bit better. 6BR is tough to beat at 300-600. Get an 8-twist barrel.

A no-turn Lapua 6BR is around .2675 loaded: get a .264 - .265 neck bushing.

Whatever dies u get I suggest bushing diess to adjust neck tension. My 6mmbr benefits greatly from lite neck tension soft seated bullets. Forester is what im running but hear whidden dies are phenomenal.
