6BR Observations, continued

Just hit 300 rounds with my M12 & McGowan 8tw. Was trying to get Hornady 87 & 105's to work, with so-so success. You all advised me to use CCI BR4 or 450 primers. Since I didn't have any, I used F205M, Rem, and a few others. I found some CCI 400, so have tried those. With heavy bullets, lotsa pierced primers, can't shoot as much powder, as you have advised.
I started using 68gr match FB bullets, and they have been pretty good so far. With Varget, AA2520 & CCI400. Here are a few 3 and 4 shot groups at 100yds.

This is with a scope upgrade to Weaver T36, and trigger blade removal. I really like this AA2520, wish I could find more. Thanks for looking. Ron.

Hey Ron, as far as the pierced primers, I experienced that in my 6BR. It is built on a Rem action. I had Gre-Tan work on the firing pin and bush the bolt. I don't have any experience with the Savage, so not sure if that can be done or not. I run 105 Berger VLD's in mine. It shoots those well when seated into the lands and better with lots of jump.

I will try more jump on the heavies. Mostly in the lands some so far. I had some heavy cratering with Rem and Fed primers, but I think the 400's are just thinner and can't take the 2900fps plus with the 105's. I got a Savage bolt head, maybe the PTG one would have worked better. Or maybe the firing pin is not contoured best. Will continue searching for BR4's. Will be interesting to see the wind effect on the 68's. Almost double the 105's, if I remember right. Best of luck. Ron.

Thanks for the tip. Also looked at Midway and Nachez, didn't see any. Would like to order some 2520 also. Have some CCI41 loaded for next test. Will see how they do. Ron.

I would try it, if I knew how?? OK, I googled and found some stuff. Turn the spring nut one way or the other? About .35-.50 protrusion. Will measure mine tomorrow. Thanks. Ron.
