6br oal question

Can someone give my an over all length, from the base to the tip) for the 6br Norma with .100 freebore using 105 Amax bullets? I need to make a dummy round for the smith & the way he told me to do it doesn't look right . There seems to be an awful lot of bullet in the case. I was told to mark the bullet at the ogive & then add .100 & seat bullet. It looks short to me.

Make up a dummy round the way 'you' want it then have the smith cut the chamber to that spec. You're building for 'you' and not someone else. I like lots of neck contact so the bullet will be set deep in the case. As the rounds get fired the freebore will get longer, over time) and you just set the OAL a little longer and you can still touch the lands. JMHO.

I agree with NorCalMikie. I just got my rifle from Stockade with the same specs as you and with 105 Amax's my OAL is 2.324'. I have no way to measure to the ojive. I messed around with it a little since life has been turned upside down in the last two months. Once I get it worked out I'll post up some rifle pictures and groups. For now the rifle really likes the Amax right at the lands with 28.9 grains of Varget and CCI primers.

I have some 107 SMK's I really want to get worked out. I set the SMK's with a wilson seater set for the Amax's. I couldn't get anything going. I loose fitted an SMK in a fired case and turns out the SMK's have a pointer nose. Looks like they were jumping .016'.

For some reason I just have to shoot a more expensive bullet than an Amax. But I gotta tell you the flat shoot. Problem around here is you have to shoot what you can get, and all I have is Amax and SMK.

Oh from the best of what I can calculate the OAL I'm using puts the start of the boat tail right at the neck/shoulder.

mine is 2.737 with the 105 berger.
Seeing that the 6BR Norma case max length specs 1.56' and the Berger 105 is around 1.235' long,VLD), then no bearing surface would be inside the case. Just what caliber are you talking about?

My Savage 12F is 2.333 with Hornady A-Max 105. I shoot it at 2.343, just firm contact. Sierra 107 MK is 2.375 and I also shoot it .010 jammed at 2.385.

At 2.385, the SMK 107 has .231 shank contact. At 2.343, the Hornady 105 A-Max has .247. Both figures are with case length of 1.550.

Hope this helps.
