6BR norma and Lapua brass v. remington 6br brass

I know , i am full of newbie questions today..lol...ok when i bought my rifle the gentleman had 50 rounds loaded of ammo using the old rem 6 br brass that i believe is no longer available....i shot it and then bought some norma brass and we found that niether it or Lapua brass would chamber...we ended up using a brand new 6br reamer he had and cleaned up the chamber with it and now they load fine ....can i still use the rem brass? was this brass designed slightly larger in dimension?in my other post about case length i noted it seems over length cases chamber fine....did my smith mess up when he ran the new chamber through it? im a little concerned now.....

I would want to know how much the chamber was lengthened if any before answering this. Better yet...do what areaone said!

The standard chamber length for the old, original 6BR Remington was 1.520". When Norma came out with their brass they had to do something to avoid patent infringement rights, so they lengthened their chambers to 1.570" with the brass at 1.560", so their brass could not be chambered in a Rem. chamber.

They also increased the case head diameters approx. .002". A short time later, Lapua brought their brass onto the market & they followed Norma's dimensions.

You can use Remington brass in Norma/Lapua chambers, but not Norma/Lapua in Remingtons.

I think you would have a tough time finding someone who is cutting the Remington chambers today.

here is what it is...

bam1015: Remington 6BR brass is still available, primed, as mentioned in the very informative attachment. Sinclair, 2011-B catalog, page 102, at $82.15/100. Lapua (unprimed) is available from "Powder Valley", for less.

Different twist barrels, different reamers. If he used an 8 twist reamer on a 14 twist barrel, yeah he may have screwed up.

Don't ask me how I know. Hog

Sinclair shows they are out of stock for the 6mm BR Remington brass. As Remington is no longer manufacturing this brass, the only thing you can do is to take some 7mm BR brass and neck it down to 6mm.

Im confused :-\

What is an 8 twist reamer? How does the twist rate of the barrel matter to the chamber reamer?

Unless your talking about the freebore for longer seating depth. Is that it?
