6br magazine choice

I have a Bighorn Origin action on order. Rem700 clone. S/A repeater. Ill use it mostly for targets and some coyotes. I plan to put it in a McMillan stock. This action comes with Remington feed lips so I can go BDL or acis. Also this action has controlled round feed. I'm fine with BDL but want reliable feed and eject. Thoughts

The Bighorn (Tactical/TL2/TL3) actions have no problems feeding and extracting/ejecting the 6BR case. The issue is the magazines and how they fit on the stock. I always have run them from an AICS magazine and have never used a BDL. The magazine will require a 6BR magazine kit. A big issue people run into with DBM is how the DBM/magazine is fitted or bedded to the stock. If the magazine/case is not presented to the action at the correct height you may run into issues. I have been running them in chassis systems without issue, but have seen people have problems with magazine latch height and or feedlips. Unfortunately this is a non-standard configuration, it may run 100% or not. You wont know until it is built.

Thank you, I was unaware there was a 6br kit. As for height that's one reason I'm going with a high end stock as I expect McMillan will cut it very accurate. I'd still like to know if anyone's using BDL. Mike

You're welcome. McMillan makes great stocks, but the pillars and bedding job can alter the magazine height ever so slightly and mess things up. Also different DBM's can influence things; IE: Surgeon vs PTG. I would recommend using a smith that is familiar with 6BR repeaters. I love that stubby little cartridge, but it can be tough to get it right.

I have not shot 6BR or Dasher from AICS mags and was initially under the impression that they would only feed from them with the various kits on the market. Now I understand the Magpul AICS style mag will feed both of those rounds with ease.

Magpul AC mags will feed my Dashers, not BR. I also had to do some serious modification to get them to feed smoothly with any cartridge. Not an "out of the box" fix. It will depend on your rifle, it is all semi-custom. People on the internet often say something works or doesn't. Many times those people have tried it at the range once or twice and it worked for them. I have been running magazine fed 6BR/Dasher in matches for 4 years. We developed those AICS magazine kits here in Colorado with the help of AJ from Bighorn. I don't claim to be the foremost expert, but we have put tens of thousands or rounds through these magazines and these actions with 6BR/Dasher/BRA.

The best running BR repeater I have messed with is my 6BRA built on a Remington and HS precision DBM. I did have to modify it with a spacer but its so slick you wonder if you even stripped a round. I cant make it jam. I am trying to get HS to offer this and I have told them what I did to modify it. Hopefully they will offer them in the future. I dont care for the larger, bulkier, noisy, aics mags for a hunting rifle.

FWIW I've run both AICS 10 round magazines with a spacer kit from Primal Rights, and American Rifle Company magazines with no spacer (but slight modification to the follower) from my Bighorn TL3 shooting 6BR fireforming, 6BRA, and Dasher cases. All work great.

You've lost me a little. You talk about the hs precision DBM with a spacer and a bigger bulkier acis magazine.

I'm currently using 10 round AICS mags with the Primal Rights kit and a Core/Seekins +2 magazine extension.

It's taking some work to get it to feed right, but I think I may have finally gotten them to function reliably. Need to do more testing in the field to verify.

I built a "shelf" in the +2 mag extension with a moldable putty that hardens over time, for the spacer in the kit to sit on. I like +2 mag kits for ease of stripping the first couple of rounds out of the magazine, so this was probably my biggest challenge getting the mags to work right. My first version of the shelf I didn't let sit long enough before using, and ended up with a follower that liked to nose dive. Initial testing with the new shelf is showing much more promise.

I also had to tweak the mag lips and I smoothed out the inside of the lips with really fine sandpaper.

Have never been able to get ARC mags to work in my rifles, but I haven't tried them in my new Mausingfield. I'm so invested in AICS mags at this point, that I don't want to swap mags.

ive got a Bighorn TL3 Dasher with magpul. so what is the trick to make them feed correctly? mine feeds 1 from the mag just fine. If I put more below that the cases want to nose dive inside the case. im tempted to modify mine with a spacer in the back. looks like a .350" spacer in the back would push them forward enough to make one run perfect. or is there an easier fix?
(I shoot single shot 99% of the time anyway, just be nice to have it as a repeater if needed)

If your gun will accept AW mags, those with the HRD 6BR kit is phenomenal. Beats the shit out of my AICS with Primal Rights kit, which no longer get used. Much easier to load, shorter, smoother feeding. The 10rd AW mags aren't much longer than my AICS 5-round mags.

Here are the kits I'm talking about:

I'm sure other places sell them too. I'm not sure if any other companies make BR kits for AW mags.

I took the plunge. I cut the magpul follower down to size and shaved both followers top and bottom to make room for the spring to go forward. Found an old savage single shot follower that fit perfect inside the mag and was .360” thick. Quick and easy, plus it’s cheap. Feeds great now, no nose diving. Perfect if you go aics bottom metal with your Origin action.
