6BR loads

anyone have a suggested load for the 6BR I have a 26" barrel and 1:14 twist
Also do you load overall length to touch the lands or be .020 off or short?
Thanks New to bench rest

You betcha!
Bear in mind that these loads are safe in my rifle and I make no guarantee that they will be safe in yours; proceed with caution. The brass is neck turned Lapua. Barrel twist rate is 1-14"

1) 34.5 grn. Varget, CCI small rifle mag. primer, 65 grn. Hornady V-Max touching the lands. Vel. approx. 3400 ft/s., 5 shot groups @ 200 meters = <3/8"

2) 30.8 grn. VV135, Federal small rifle match primer, 68 grn. Fowler touching the lands. Vel. approx. 3250 ft/s., 5 shot group @ 200 meters = .267

General rule of thumb: use CCI mag. primers for Varget and Fed. match if you decide to try VV135. Almost any 65 grn. or 68 grn. bullet with either of these two powders should work well. Check out the loads on this site as that is where I started.
Good luck,

Just a bit curious about why not to use the CCI primers with Vith 135 for I have used the Federals before but after my firing pin pierced a couple I switched over to CCI and the problem is no longer there. I have to say that this was with fairly hot loads.

I found an article from the Calhoon website awhile back where he had evauluated small rifle primer cups for thickness wanting to know why some primers, cratered/punctured more than others. His results were that CCI450 and CCI BR primers have the thickest cup at .025", Fed 205M at .0225", all the others were around .020". I have found using hot loads that the Fed205M will puncture before the Br primers from CCI. I still use the Federals though as I have several thousand of them. I recently dropped to a lower node though, and went from 3250fps with an 88gr Berger to 3050. No more cratering, and the ballistics aren't hurt that dramatically for what I do with it. Varget is an easy powder to find an accurate load for every BR I have, including the 22BR fast twist with heavy bullets. Good luck, and like mentioned earlier, work your way up to any load that is near max.
