6BR like Chuck Gs

I am building a 6 BR on the Striker format. Main difference is that I am using a Target SS receiver. I am getting a SS 3 groove 10 twist made by Bench Mark. My reamer is being made by PT&G. The stock is iffy and on a Boyds Thumb-hole cut down to meet overall size limits for a pistol. This is a really great project and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I am not sure what brake I should use. Chuck's looks good from an aesthetic stand point but he has recoil and flip. The bungy story seems to indicate that the brake leaves something to be desired. I have 30 c al brakes that actually cause the barrel muzzle to dip after the gun is fired. Perhaps a tad too much flip suppression but proof that you can eliminate ALL of it. Brake cost me $25. Not getting all impressed with myself...smart people suggested that brake to me. My contribution to the system was to have the thing mounted so I could try many different products with a standard thread pitch. The 6 must be an animal of a different color and I doubt that my 30 cal brake would work well. Especially since the hole in the brake is not the correct size. Can anyone suggest a brake that would work with my 15 inch barrel that I can afford?
Thank you and I hope Chuck will contribute. You are my hero Chuck.

John,

You might try the Harrel Brothers brakes. They work great and are a very good value for the money. About 35.00. Hope this helps.

Regards, Paul.

Paul,

They only show a rake that has holes all the way around it. I want a brake/flip suppressor and that needs some holes cut in the top and only in the sides to avoid throwing up debris. I found some but they were $150 or more.

Thanks for your post, though. I wish I could find a brake made by Harrel as they are surely cost effective.

I ordered from Harrel's. That was an experience that is unique in my 70 year lifetime. Thank you for recommending them and renewing my faith in humanity. The Genteele Southerner is dying a horrible death, for sure, but he is NOT dead yet and these guys are proof.

Thank you,

John

Yes they (The Harrel's) are great folk! Always a joy talking on the phone with them.

Your going for something like this?

Jim,

Yes I am though I can't afford anything as God awful beautiful as that one. If that is yours, my hats is off to you. How is the performance of that beauty?

We need to talk more.

I built that one for a fellow in TX, 260 rem, he had it for about a month and has another on order, this time it will have the interupted flutes on the barrel to match the bolt. He sent me some group pics and it looks like it is doing about 1/2"-5/8" at 100
