6BR in the PD Fields

A friend and I are going to SD for three days of PD shooting in June. I'm planning on taking, for certain, a .204, a 20 Vartarg and a 17 Fireball. I also have another .204 I could take, or there's my Savage F Class rifle.....

If I decided to haul the 6BR along, what bullets would you recommend? I currently have a good supply of 70gr NBTs and 75gr VMaxs.....

I'm currently using it for 600 yard competition, shooting 105 grain Bergers.

Thanks.

George

A subject near and dear to my heart. In my opinion, the 6 MM BR is the best prairie dog rifle in the know world. I take two with me. One is a 14 twist with 75 VMAX and the second is an 8 twist with 105 AMAX. The Hornady line of bullets work very well in the dog towns. I haven't tried the Berger line but I have heard good things about them on prairie dogs.

Fwiw used to shoot a 243 win and the 65gr v-max was the perfect pd bullet in it. Bucked the wind amazingly well, was very, very accurate and did absolutely unspeakable things to the poor little critters.

Thanks for the feedback....

I had some 70gr Nosler BTs in my bullet cabinet, loaded them up with IMR8208 and had excellent accuracy at 3400fps.....

Will load some for SD....

Oh Yeah, tons of fun!!!! I took a 17HMR, 204, 223 and a BR to SD for the first time last year.

204 (32g BK), 223 (50g VMax) and 6BR (87g VMax).......all HbN coated.

The 70 grain BT should do unspeakable things to the p-dogs in the 6BR and do a decent job of bucking the wind if the distances are under 500 yards. The higher BC bullets will be better if it is blowing strong. I would have some of the 70's and maybe another load with 85-95 grain bullets that you can dial up the wind with. If you are using a heavy Berger varmint bullet you will still get some great "mist" and air time at the longer distances. ;D Have fun!

Hetta: Thanks for the response....I've got a couple hundred 105gr Amaxs a friend gave.....will give them a try.

Prairie dogs don't stand a chance. This is with my old 14 twist 6BR Remington.

The 105 AMAX out of my 8 twist 6BR Norma do a pretty good job also.

I love my 6br with 75gr VMAX for ground squirrels. They are a little smaller than the p dogs but they destroy them.
Hard combo to beat, very accurate, low recoil and noise and more destruction than the 22-250 I had.

I'm using Barnes 62gr VG's in my 8t Lilja, pushing them right at 3500fps with H335. The VG's are easy to get to lands and shoot very well for me.
Put's red mist on ground squirrels and turns rock chucks into acrobats.
