'6BR' I'm Confused - What's in a name?

I hope that you don't find my question too lame but I am having a hard time understanding all the nominclature regarding the what fits under the generic name "6BR" I am currently shooting 17 HMR and have recently become interested in stepping up. This caliber interests me and I thought I might test the waters by picking up a Savage or Cooper and give it a try. In researching what would be required I keep running into missmatches in how the caliber is referred to. When you factor into the mix the possibility for variants and wildcats it gets very confusing. It is my understanding that the correct name for the caliber is 6BR Norma. However, Forster Dies, highly recommended on this sight) doesn't offer a loading die set in that exact designation. Could someone please advise as to all the equivalent names for the caliber and also which names do not interchange. To me it would appear that there is some potential for creating a hazard to personal safety. Could someone please help me get started off on the right foot?

The Forster dies are set up for the 'norma' spec, I called and asked :). I also had them hone the neck to .266". Unless you bought some 20 year old stuff I doubt you are going to find any actual '6mmBR Remington' stuff made to the original, obsolete specs.

In terms of dies, one works for the other. The 6BR Norma neck is a couple thou longer, but that isn't affected by any die. In fact Redding's competition die set says 6MM BR Remington, not Norma and it is completely interchangeable with the Norma cartridge.
