6br idea

I have tried the 70matchkings in past on Groundhogs. It sucked. Up close they may or may not open. Farther out they just wouldn’t open at all. I was shooting at one with a buddy spotting once. Just over 500 yards. I shot at this pig, he said I swear you hit but it ran a few feet. Assuming I missed shot again, then again. I hit it three times not a single bullet opened up. Switched to 58 vmax or 65 vmax. No doubt on those. Never had a failure to open, and much quicker kills. Also the Sierra varmint bullets worked well.

Thank you

I'm shooting a 8 twist 6br with sierra 70gr blitzkings and they hammer ground hogs from 15 to 400yds, that's as far as I shot them, haven't had one to step out of there tracks yet! And best of all they shoot as good as the match bullets.

Try some VV N135 mine really come to life with it.

When I lived in Nashville, I used a 6br deer hunting once. Used the 75 v-max. It was pretty impressive. Granted it was a small deer but it left quite the exit hole. I think on a groundhog it would be sweet shooting bullet. I just picked up a 6br yesterday in a cooper, cannot wait to shoot it!

Are you touching the lands and grove with the 70 gr blitz king ? What’s the load on that thanks

I have them 5ths in lands, for safety reasons I won't post my charge weight but it was on the top end.

Hi all any thoughts on a 6br 1-8 twist using a smk 70 gr bullet on ground hogs thanks

+3 on the 70 BK. But with your 8tw, give the 87gr Vmax a try. That is what I use in my 8tw. The 87gr. Vmax is the groundhog bullet made.

I love Nosler Ballistic Tips, 55 grain, there's nothing better in my book. I even shoot 70 grain NBT's. I shoot heavier NBT's in my 270 & 308 that produces unbelievable amazing results.

You should have a blast with the 55 NBT's. Super accurate as well.

Don't feel like grabbing my reloading manuals to check. I shoot a 6BR & 6BRX 14 twist. 8 twist is fast for 70 gr. That's what they use for 105 gr. I shoot 58-68 gr. 14 twist. Small groups. The fast twist reduces MV a little. 12 twist might be a good compromise. Some of the recommended twist for bullet wts. are strange when you compare 2-3 manuals. They are not the same.
