6BR Hunting Build Questions

Looking for some thoughts from the experienced ones as I start the build process for a lightweight hunting rig

Have a 6mm BR Rem on a Rem short action. It is a 1:10 twist, sporter profile. I want to build a 6mm BR Norma 1:8 twist in a lightweight rig on a Stiller action coming in so I can run 70-105 gr projos.

Are the carbon Remage prefits worth the weight savings and expense (X-Caliber/Carbon 6/OMR/Proof)? I'd like the barrel to be between 22 and 24 inches so I can add a can when in the field. Range would be 300 +/- yards, but I have access to a 600 yard range for plinking.

I'd like to keep the rifle without scope in the low 6 lbs with the Stiller, barrel and a lightweight stock.

Am I setting to high of a bar for this?

It sounds great but I would make it a dasher or a BRX and go with at least a 7.5;1 or 7;1 twist so you have a little more freedom with bullet choice like the 109 bergers, or the 108 EOL hunting Bergers just incase your barrel doesn't like the 105's. It will also leave some room incase you want to try some Mono bullets. The Dasher or BRX will give you all the great attributes of the BR but allow you jus a bit more velocity if needed and when stretching its legs while hunting. Also the added velocity will help since you are going such a short barrel. Other than that it will make a fine little hunting rig.

A lightweight carry rig should not be much of a challenge to build. I did one in 308 Win and it'll put the first two shots touching at 200, but the third wanders off a inch or so due to barrel heat. If you're looking at a typical hunting rig, and not a PD rig, a light varmint or sporter weight barrel at 22 inches will do fine. No need to go with a bull barrel and all the weight it adds if you're not planning on shooting 20 to 30 rounds in a short amount of time.
A 40mm scope to keep weight down, hardwood or fiberglass stock (not laminate wood) and you'll be right in the ballpark of your weight goal and as far as capability goes, 600 to 800 yds is a snap with a 6BR and 107 gr SMK.

I'd probably be wasting my Breath, extolling the Virtues of, the 6 XC, 24" Bbl., 1-7.5 Twist. ( to shoot 80's to 110 grain Bullets,.. WELL ! ). The 108 gr Elite Hunter, can SMACK a Big Muley way out there,.. IF,.."needed" !
Do some research, before committing to a "Pipsqueek" Cartridge that, may or may NOT,.. FEED well, in the Rem 700 Short action. The 6 XC has, close to, the Power of the .243 Win and BETTER Barrel Life than, either the .243 OR, 6 mm Creedmoor. Good luck with, YOUR "Choice" !

I have a 6mm BR hunting rifle, Big Horn Arms TL3 action, Manners MCS-T composite stock, 22" Proof Research Carbon Fiber barrel(.055" FB) with a Leupold FX3 straight 6 power scope. It weight 8lbs with the scope. Cycles 70grn Nosler BT bullets just fine without any modifications to the detachable magazine.
I also own a Remington 700 with a varmint contour 6mm Dasher barrel. I have cycling issues with the 75grn and lighter bullets do the the cartridge overall length being too short, 87grn and heaver bullets cycle. I have the Primal Rights kit in the magazine however, it just doesn't like the shot length light bullets. The Berger 95grn VLD Hunting bullets with RL15 is what this barrel likes.
Have you looked at the Borden Super Short 6 actions? I own one in a 6mm Dasher with a 24" CF Proof barrel with a muzzle brake, Manners MCS-T4A stock and a Leupold VX-5HD scope. It weighs about 9-1/2lbs and cycles super smooth.

This is very doable. Nothing worng with a 6 BR 1:8 twist. Carbon wraps are a lot of money for a little weight savings. A sporter barrel will meet your requirements for far less. I have a Stevens 200 in .243 that weighs about 5lb complete. Have fun! Best wishes!

+100

105g Berger VLD Hunting at 2900-3050 is real world, depending on how hard you want to push it in the 6 xc, with a lack of feeding issues from the magazine, and bug hole accuracy.

6BR-105 with a 24" bbl is 2800fps
