6Br Hates Varget and 107 SMK

If that ends up being the case then I will switch but my wallet really likes the SMK over Bergers.

I don't think the velocities ever got the high but my notes are at home. I do know my bolt is in desperate need of a bushing job. Even on light loads I get cratering around the primers.
Do not shoot with your wallet. You always spend, never save. So spend and get something for your money. It never hurts to follow the winners even if you do not compete.

Try CCI450s. I've used BR4s once. Gave me worse ES I've ever had from a rifle. Theres a reason why CCI450s are the primer of choice with 6BRs and alike. They work.

I have a 6BRX and when I was forming them out of 6BR I was shooting 29 gr Varget with 107 SMK and they shot real good. Everything I have read Varget is the go to powder.

Funny thing is, I find my BR shoots the 107s
with Varget really well. Just finished doing load development last week. Was shooting the 105 Hybrids and 105 VLDs which both shoot good too. Dropped 1/10 charge and it tightened up.

I laughed when I read the heading. I tried so hard to get Varget and Sierra's to work in my first 6BR barrel. Neither would shoot together or with most other component combinations. My search led to Varget with a +.010 soft-seated, moly-coated 105 Scenar "L" bullet.

The rifle didn't get shot much this year but I was able to run through a number of powders, I settled on 28.4gr of H4985 and 107 Sierra's. It's not a fast load but it groups well and as a midrange prone rifle I'm happy with the results.

There ya go! I have the best luck this year shooting H4895/107grSMK/Fed 205m in my BR and my BRX. The BR was winning a few 300yd matches shooting 25.5gr (really slow) but the paper don't lie. Average velocity 2551fps and grouping at about an inch at 300. That load is the same speed at 25.4 25.5 25.6 so I stuck with the middle. The Federal 205m primers give me the lowest ES numbers. This is all loaded in Norma brass.

Its a relatively new action.

I just got the bolt back from being bushed! If I do 30gr of Varget what seating depths should I try?

My 6mm BR with a 26" 7:5 bartlein loves 30 gr. Varget with 107 SMK's @.005 off the lands. Shoots 1/4" & under 5 shot groups at 200 yds off bench.

I've not given up on varget, I'll try it here soon with Rem 7 1/2 and CCI 450 primers now I've gone through my stash of CCI BR4s.
