6br freebore

Gentlemen, I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the freebore on a couple savage barrels I picked up. Both standard 6mmBr with .271 necks. First barrel measures 1.705" from case base to ogive and the other measures 1.770". This is just snugged up to riffling using Stoney point modified 6br case and their comparator. Thanks for any help.

Cerrosafe will give you a measure of the chamber and freebore but is tricky. I read about this trick and do it with every gun I have made...size a neck slightly loose(.001+- smaller than loaded neck). Seat a flat based bullet backwards and chamber. The bullet gets pushed into the neck as soon as it touches the beginning of the land's slope. Even a " no freebore" reamer has a little angle going from chamber to bore(.015 in some). The gap between case length and chamber adds to freebore also.

hi midnite,,,a chamber with .080" FB will give a length of 2.368" (+/- a little)...with a Sierra 107 ,,,so how ever your rounds differ from this will give you an approximate FB...Roger
