6br for whitetails

I have a 8twist - 23" barrel 6br and think of using it for deer. Looking for loads any anyone with experience on the 6br for deer hunting.

Short of the long: I shoot a 6dasher use a barnes on short range under 300 and the 105 berger on longer ranges. Not a lot of "knock down" but plenty of killing if put in the right spot.

Same here.....Dasher. We shoot the Berger 105 VLD-H right around 3000 FPS We use it to kill big does out to 500 yards. Of course....broadside shot right in the boiler......DEVASTATING!!! It worked good for my then ten year old to make his furthest kill.....517 yards....DOA!!!

You will loose 200 FPS, give or take, with the 6 BR...still good to 400+++ yards.

I have not used the 6br for hunting but I have with 6brx and it works just fine, your just 100-150 fps slower, my son took a 350 lb. black bear at 705 yards, one shot and several 400-500 yard mule deer shots with 105 vld's the bear come to think of it was with a 107 SMK. They won't pick them off there feet but they will be dead just the same if you place the bullet right, I wouldn't be scared at all hunting white tail with a 6br, I bet the 100 grain accubond would be a excellent mid range hunting bullet in a 6br with the proper twist for it.

I shot a couple of does with my 6br this past season--one at 100 yds and one at about 300. Used the Berger 105 vld hunting. Both dead right there. Neither bullet made it thru the other side. Load was 30.0 Varget. I wouldn't take it after a trophy, but works fine for taking meat.
