6BR for 1,000 yards

How competitive can I expect this round to be at 1K? Im shooting the KY Long Range state championships this weekend and my Palma rifle is still not finished so I am bringing out my 6BR tube gun, it's a 27' 1-8 Brux shooting a 107 SMK at 2850. according to the weather channel, there expecting less than 10MPH wind. I know a 6BR wont do great at long range with heavy wind but with light wind can I still expect to be competive?

A 6BR shoots inside a Palma rifle, so if you're competitive with a .308 you'll be even better with a 6br. There is no magic bullet, you have to read the wind and point in the middle to do well no matter what you're shooting.

I've done it and been competitive. A steady consistent wind, to no wind is best. If it is mild and switchy you might struggle a good bit, against the bigger guns.

Rminut hit the nail on the head. The 6BR will shoot inside of the Typical 155gr palma load. A good friend of mine shot his at 1000 yards as that is all he had and did just fine. Dont let it get in your head that your shooting a leaser gun, It will perform if you can.

Best of luck and enjoy yourself. Your only shooting against yourself and your goals anyway.

So how did you do with your 6BR?

I've seen one used @ 1,000 yards using Hornady 105 AMAX & score was really good. Hardly any wind, nice sunny day. My choice in a 6mm would give me ~ 150 FPS over what you report, or I'd grab my 308.

I actually used my 6br last weekend at 1k and broke HM for the first time, including a 199-14. The FT-O winner used a 6Dasher to win the title. The more I use the 6BR, the more I like it.

Shot very well with my RL15 load, lost all of my points to wind, kept a little over half minute elavation. This is my first year shooting long range after a 6 year break due to college baseball, so I'm still getting used to the wind again. I only shot a 172-3 with irons but I'm very happy with the vertical spread and think this will make me work harder in the wind.
