6BR Factory Ammo Test Update

Test objective is to give some of the new shooters the ability to compete with good ammo. The ability to load and develop may come down the road. Will be a good start for some.

Test rifle is a shop used rifle, AMT action, right bolt left port. McMillan stock, Jewell trigger. Has mounted B&L 8x32 power scope with Burris rings. Hard to get Kostyshyn 1 in 8 twist barrel. Shop muzzle break.

The 6br test was a success. Richard shot the factory Lapua ammo in a light bench gun. Was AMT action, Kostyshyn barrel in 1 in 8 twist. McMillen stock and a Jewell trigger. He placed well in the standings. Agg of 4.365 and 192 points, With a bit more testing I feel there may be a good start for a person to start competing and have a load capable of finishing well in the standings. Im assembling the test results and will report further.
Thanks to those who shot, Hope to see you at our Feb 13th match,.

105 grain bullet was shot, The 77 were not tested and will be tested in the futrue.
In score Richard scored a 192 points and finished 6th of 29 shooters
In group 3.953 4.96 3.063 5.487 and agg of 4.3658 and finished 12th.
Looks promising.

Further testing, the chamber reamer on another barrel shows promise of shooting.
· XP-100 action and a Douglas barrel in 8 twist, resulted in some very small groups. The rifle is not in final stock, but for barrel break in we used 30 grains of Varget and 107 grain Sierra bullets. The load seemed to be too hot for the barrel and served as a break in load and saved the hard to get factory ammo. Firing factory Lapua ammo after gave some 3 shot groups in a hole. After speaking with Graff and Sons, the next order should be larger and allow people to get the orders. I did get a few more boxes and quality seems to be the same as last lot. I have ordered a 6.5x55 reamer for the same test, I hope to get the same results with that, I have factory ammo ordered. For the people who may want to compete and you may not have the faith in your load ability or just want to have the ability to shoot factory ammo the Lapua tested ammo seems to work. You can finish respectfully in a match using one of the set ups. This test is not to show factory ammo is better or to down the importance of neck turning, the test is for the shooters to have a place to start shooting and to further the long range 600 and 1000 yard shooting. I hope to have the 6.5x55 in a 1000-yard match this summer, Results to follow. Thanks for your time and interest.

I needed to do a Factory Ammo,105 Lapua Scenar), velocity test to get a base line velocity for the 6BR. Since our chamber is a .269, I needed to find a way to shoot the factory ammo in The Rail Gun as it is set up now. What I did is machine a little fixture to hold the loaded case dead true so I could lightly machine the necks to .2675.
When I did this, I was amazed at how much the bullets ran out in these factory loaded rounds. The fixture I use insures that the body of the case is running dead true in the lathe. One of these things was running out .010 on the bullet ogive. That seems excessive.
Has anyone ever checked this Factory ammo. I was surprised it was this bad, considering it came from Lapua......jackie
