6BR experts chime in!

im building a scoped eliseo r5 repeater. i will be shooting the heavier bullets 105's and 115 dtacs. occassionally lighter bullets. this is not a tatical rig however it will be used in such a manner for 100m-1000m shooting with most of that shooting being done inside of 600m. i need you guys to spec me a barrel; length, contour, EVERYTHING.

any help on this project is MUCH appreciated.

Carry or bench rest? The Rem Varmint contour, #17, would be my choice in a Carry/Tac rifle. In a BR type rifle I would go with a #7, or a LV contour. Twist would be 8 for the 107g bullets with a length of 28". I built my 6 BR on a Savage and got a full bull barrel from PacNor and it shoots great.

You can make it any length you want it. Velocity will be less the shorter you go. Jackie did a test from 30 down to 28 and lost about 8 FPS per inch. Looked and diod not see if he went shorter and the results. The shorter barrel will be more stiff, in theory, and easier to tune.

In Jackie Schmidt's test we actually started at 33" and cut it down to 28". We lost 40 fps in the process, pretty much at an even rate of 8 fps.

From 28 to 26 you might lost 10-12 fps I estimate.

I'd talk to Eliseo and see what the sling-shooters,prone and cross-course) are preferring. If you're going to shoot off bipod or bench, I'd run 27-28". Remember you can always start long and cut it back... but you can't make a short barrel longer.

I had an Eliseo 6BR for a couple of years. 8 twist medium Palma. 27". It was my tactical rig for a couple of years. I ran 105 Hybrids @ 2870 with Varget. It was an extremely accurate rig. I just never could get use to the Chassis/ AR style rig. It was heavy which is not a bad thing. But, for a carry rifle, you may want something lighter. I'm more comfortable with A-5 style stocks. Still shoot a BR in tactical matches though.
Wise choice in calibers!
