6br deer hunters, what is your bullet choice?

Also how far? I shot a deer at 400 with a 105 amax/2840 fps, looking for options with a higher bc than say an 85 barnes, yet for bad angles, something tougher than an Amax.

Is the 95 ballistic tip a good compromise in this round for overall retained velocity/energy as well as expansion but controlled? My gun is doing just over 3,000 with the 95's...varget/26".

Love to hear what you all have used successfully, and how far.

Well I dont have any exp with is combo but If you use the hunting NBT other than the varmint NBT you can probly bet you will put that deer on the ground.

A swift scirocco might do the job a bit better due to it being bonded and usualy 70% of its weight retained.Even a berger 95gr vld would do the trick with 1-3" delayed expantion then when its inside,POOF,the pill openes up and goes all over the place and creates massive wound chanels.

Im not sure where your hunting but other than the biggest sage fed muleys and biggest crop fed whitetails,to 400 yds the 6br and a good hunter is all it takes.

not a deer hunter but a hog hunter and my hog load is the Speer 85 SPBT,BC .404) and I have no worries about hunting hog with it from a 6 BR no turn neck hunting rifle

I'd take a look at teh 85 or 95 grain partition as well.

That Swift keeps popping up in reads here/there, heard mixed accuracy results like Barnes users, seems some mono bullets might be hit/miss or just fickle to load, not enough experience under my belt to say.

Yeah, odds always been in the south you CAN get some large deer, but most here are give/take 200 for a large buck, a whopper would likely die just about as quick if lung shot I would reckon. Hearing more promo for Berger bullets for hunting use. Perhaps a 105 berger would do a tad better than an Amax????? Then there is the Scenar......

I realize the high BC of those bullets are not important save the very furthest shots, and I would prefer to shoot no more than 400yds,most are 200 and under), so it would be very rare to NEED to shoot that far/further.

Getting the speeds in my post above, what would you say my loss would be per inch if I chopped the bbl? Thought about coming off the 26 to 22 or 23 and fluting........it is a #1 Ruger so still short....Varmint contour. Figuring perhaps 60-70fps loss which further downrange seems VERY immeasurable in field results. Thoughts? Want to lighten up for a more portable rifle in the field....for deer.

I killed a 150lb er with an 80gr Sierra Pistol bullet in my 6mm BR....shot thru the lung/heart ...130yds..it took two steps and ran its nose in the ground.....one of my shooting buddies here shot a big doe with his this yr right thru the chest.....180lbs....205yds...Berger 95 VLD..weighed 60gr when we found it while butchering in the front quarter under the skin...the bullet went clear thru the body,,jellied evrything inside)) and then exited and went thru the front 1/4....and the deer fell over like a two legged chair...what more culd U ask...Roger

I used a berger 68gr. bt. this year on a 4x4 buck and the deer didn't go more than ten yards after it was hit.
