6BR cookin with gas

I am liking the switch to the 6BR from the PPC so far,,take virgin brass and turn necks to .011 load and shoot,,H335,H322,H4895 and VVN135 all shot well but 8208 is what I think I will try in the first UBR match that I will shoot with the 13.5 twist zero freebore 6BR.

seated Barts 68 BT where the marks on the bullet look square and primed with CCI450s and loaded with 34.0 grs IMR8208XBR,,

I am tickled so far,,we will see what happens when he temps and humidity go all haywire,,

the 10 ring is .515 and the dot is .115

I clocked the H335 load but didnt put the magnetospeed back on and check the 8208 but I will in a couple days,,I only check the speed after I get a load done,,

the 335 load I ended with clocked 3560 but had a shot or 2 go vertical on me,,all 20 of the 8208 load hit exactly where the flags said they should,,I held the dot for all 20 and tried to shoot the same wind ever shot but missed a couple gusts and let ups,,
I will update the speeds in 2-3 days and let you know,,

High Octane gas right there! You got it figured out. NICE!!!!
I hear talk of an old smith down in Memphis,
that can make a barrel do that:D

The 6BR is so good you would think someone would name a website after it.

I just purchased my first BR last year. A smith on this forum built it. Browning action, Kreiger barrel. I've been working a lot of overtime so only shot it a few times. 90g Bergers and Varget. It's shooting close to above, but not there yet. Want to try 105 hybrids and maybe 8208.
It is so cool to see a little case like that do so well!

The loads certainly look good, but as we have discussed before, accurate loads are not as important in score shooting as wind reading skills. A shooter may have the most accurate rifle on the line, but if he misses a switch once or twice in a match, he's screwed. Practice, practice, practice, especially on windy days. In theory, a rifle capable of only a .350 grouping agg is capable of shooting a perfect score in a UBR match. It's something that should be considered. Of course, it does help to have complete confidence in your equipment.

I wouldn't use anything but 6BR at close range.
In six years of UBR competition I don't recall a 6BR ever winning a custom class match. Not saying it didn't happen, but I do the scoring at Gallatin and I don't recall it ever happening there.
Just sayin....

OK. I was just expressing my appreciation for the forgiving and easy nature of the 6BR to shoot great. I tend to shoot longer distances where the 6BR suffers in the wind. I didn't and I've recieved a PM pointing out that 6 dasher is the preferred round. --Jerry

Jerry,
Sorry if I sounded like I was beating you up. I wasn't. I agree completely that the 6BR is a very accurate and forgiving round. Beyond 300 yards it or the Dasher would be my choice. But for SR benchrest the 6PPC, 30BR and 220 Beggs are just better enough that they will beat it consistently.

Try some of Barts 80 gr bullets. They should work in the 13.5 tw. Barts guys are doing well in their Grench.

I dont even remember anybody shooting a 6BR in Custom at any of the matches I was at,,I am gonna give it an honest try and if it doesnt work out I will try something else,,but I bet my scores will have more to do with me sucking at catching those switches, gusts and let ups than in which case I am using,,,and besides if it`s never been done makes me want to try it even more,,LOL,,

at least now I have the bolt fixed where I could go to a 30BR or back to the PPC if I decide to,,but I want to see how the 6BR will do at least through 2-3 matches,,

it is still all in fun to me,,I dont have to win to have fun,,

If we have to win to have fun, we wouldn't be having much fun most of the time.
Rick
more like any of the time,,I know I am about ready for this crazy weather to be over and the local matches to start,,I will probably be like Larry Scott and shoot my whole first target in the 3 minute sight in,,LOL,
