6BR bullets for 12 twist barrel?

I have a 6mm br with a 12 twist barrel and I want to use it for deer hunting. My question is what bullets would you suggest for this application? It will shoot the 75gr V-Max very well but really don't want to use it. Any help would be appreciated.

peterf225,

I have used 100 gr partition in my 6BRX in a 8tw. The 85 gr par would be good. Also 85gr Barnes XXX would be good also.

I owned two .244 Remingtons with 12' twist barrels and had trouble stabilizing bullets at long range. Best results will probably come from flat-based bullets 90 grains or less.

If you plan to take any long-range shots, like 300 yards or more, bench-test the load at that range. Also, if your location is cold during deer season, try to test at that temperature. Air density has an effect on bullet stability.

Ogre6br - I have not shot that bullet but did try to develop a load using the Sierra 85 HPBT in my 6mm 40-X. They would shoot well at short range but the groups would open dramatically at 300 yards or more. Have you shot this bullet at longer ranges?

My top load was about 3400 and grouped .5-.6' at 100 yards. At 300 yards, it was 3-4' with some signs of bullet tipping.

Barnes also makes a 80gr Tipped TSX that might be worth a whirl....
