6br 1-12 twist bullets?

I purchased one of the Savage lrpv repeaters with the 1-12 twist barrel. I plan on using the gun for coyotes. I would like some recommendations on bullets. I have heard that the Hornady 75 grain v-max bullets are a good choice. How much heavier can I go with this twist?

I was able to shoot 87gr V-max's out of my 24" 1-12 twist, they were not as accurate as the 80gr Bergers but they still shot around 5/8" for 5 at a 100.

Thanks,
Ron

My 26" LRPV 6br will not shoot anything over 85gr well. 85gr Barnes x bullets shoot ok but nothing heavier. It likes 68-80gr stuff. the 75 V-max shot ok as well and should work well.

df65284,

I shoot a Sierra 70 Blitzking with a stiff load of N135 and CCI BR4 running 3500 f/s. This load does very well on VA groundhogs out past 600yds. The best load for my 12 tw is 80 Berger's and N135.

I shoot 55 gr Sierra Blitskings in my Pac Nor 1 in 12 6mm BR. Deadly chuck load for as far as I can shoot chucks where I hunt.

I know Hodgdons Ball C2 is not really popular anymore but my load of 33grains with a Sierra 75 grain bullet in my homemade 6BR with a Shilen 1in12 barrel shoots 3/8' at my 125 yard range all day long. Try this powder.

Have you tried the Berger 80g with Varget, I use 30.5G, and it shoots tighter than 1/4' for 5 round groups at 100. BUT, I have a 26' 1 in 8 Pac-Nor barrel.
Varget is my favorite powder, it works vary well in my 308 and 6MMBR, I even used it with some success with heaver bullets in a 223.

DF65284,

The 75grn V-Max should work very well out of your rifle. The 75grn V-max is a perfect match for the 6BR with a 1-12 twist barrel. The 87grn V-Max might work, however, you will need to push it harder, and I wouldn't do that. I would stick with the 70grn Blitzking, 70grn Ballistic Tip and the 75grn V-Max. The 75grn V-Max has a BC of .330, so that's the bullet I would form your load around. You should be able to push it, out of your barrel, at around 3500fps and it will destroy varmints.

I would use Varget Powder and a CCI 450 primer. This combo really works well. When you get your load worked up, let me know, and I will run a drop chart for you. I have the Nightforce Ballistics Program, so I can help you out. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
