6BR BRASS: Lapua vs. Remington

What is the neck thickness difference,if any, between Lapua and Remington brass? Also, what are the differences when they are necked down to 22br? I dont have any Remington brass on hand and was hoping that someone would be kind enough to supply me with the info.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I believe there are dimensional differences on the Rem vs Lapua that you might want to look too.

Thanks BH! I've read about the differences that one can expect on other parts of the brass, but I've yet to find anything about the differences in neck thickness.

Here's the story...

I've got a buddy who had a local gunsmith rechamber a barrel that was 22br .185" short. Unfortunately for my friend the gunsmith rented the reamer and has no clue now as to the dimensions of the chamber. He says it is 22br Rem., but he has no other info to offer. I took some Lapua brass and turned it down about .002" until I could get a loaded round to chamber with out effort. Then I went back and turned another piece on the odd measurements until it would chamber to see which loaded round had the smaller neck diameter. According to my ball mic. the difference was less than .001" between the two rounds. From all of this I came to the conclusion that the chamber probably had a .250" neck and a loaded round would have to measure .248".

Now this leads to my question...

Maybe the chamber was meant to use Rem. brass and that would allow for no neck turning. The problem with this thought is that it completely ignores the fact that Rem. and Lapua share different dimensions almost completely.

We are going to do a chamber cast here in the next few weeks when we can get together again, but I figured it would be worth picking a few brains here.

As a side note...

I've got a 20BR, 22BR, and 6BR. I've never used anything but Lapua in all of them and they all shoot GREAT!!! Gotta' love that case...
