6BR barrel selection help

I'm looking to purchase my next barrel for my 6BR. I will be shooting primarily 100-300 yds, but would like to be able to stretch it out to 600 when I have the chance. I currently have a Savage target action in a BR stock. I have my own PTG reamer w/ .104 freebore from Dave Kiff for the Lapua brass. I do not compete, but am looking for the best accuracy possible at these ranges.

What twist rate would you suggest?

.236 or .237 bore?

Barrel length?

Barrel Manufacturer?

Smith's that you would recommend for a good chambering and finish job?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

28' Krieger, .236, 8 twist.

There's a bunch of good smiths down your way.

Al

+1 for alf, Thats pretty much what I have, just a little shorter and shoots great. Try Mickey Coleman he's a great guy and wont take all year either.

Thanks guys. I have been eye balling the Kriegers for a while now. I called yesterday, but they said it was a 16wk lead time on blanks. Anyone know where I could get one quicker? Do you have the number for Mickey?

Thanks,
Bill

Try a McGowen Precision Barrel,www.mcgowenbarrel.com).

They did me right on a monster shooting .223 for a custom CZ527; and now they are sending me a 28' 1:8 Savage straight bull in 6mmBR chambered with a PTG reamer for Lapua brass.

They manufacture Savage drop-ins for what you need and order time is only 3-4 weeks. They also offer 10 percent off to first-time buyers and another 15 percent off if you have a C&R license, etc. I got the $315 26' barrel for $240,but I then added 2 inches for $20). And they ship direct to you.

Try Bruno Shooters Supply, http://www.brunoshooters.com/ ) for a Krieger barrel.

I ordered a heavy Palma countour Krieger in 6mm 1:8 twist 30' and got it from them in 2 weeks.

Here is what I use on my 6BR, and I would highly recommend it.

Bartlein 28', 1-8 twist, .236 Bore, 5R barrel

Without a doubt one of the best barrels I have ever used.

Thanks for the advice from everybody. I've currently have a McGowen at 30', and I may have it cut down to 26-28 and re-chambered until I can get a new barrel.

Lynn,

Do you have a number for Jim?

Tks,
Bill

Lynn,

Gave Jim a call today, and he seems like a nice guy. Bruno's has,16) Krieger 1x8, 31' Heavy Varmint tapers in stock. They run 1.25' for 5', and then taper down to .90' at the muzzle. I think I'm going to get one of these headed his way and let him do his thing. Bruno's couldn't tell me if they were .236 or .237 bore, but Jim said that it wouldn't matter either way.

Thanks for the help,
Bill
