Depends on several factors. How hot you let the barrel get while shooting,and if you continue shooting), how hot of a load,lots of powder for more speed), the style of bullets,larger bearing surface), how often you clean the barrel, the barrels quality, etc.

Keeping your charge low, barrel cool, and having a good brand of barrel can extend it to several thousand. It also depends on how accurate of a barrel life you want, i.e. if it starts shooting more than a 1/4 MOA than it's junk, you may only get a thousand or two).

If you take care of the barrel, I would say you will get 3500 to 4000 firings before you start noticing a drop off in accuracy. If you fire it and don't let the barrel cool down, I would say you'll still get 2500 firings out of it. Either way, your going to have excellent barrel life.

On the same question, I just recently,before i left for the boat)got a savage 6br. on the topic of barrel life we shoot 15-20 round srings of fire in 20-22min. the barrels cool after that, but they get hot,at least the 308's did, didnt have time to try the 6br) how long do you think the barrel could last in my rifle? i only has around 45 through it now.

Like shadowdrak said: Depends on those factors, which = barrel life. Also quality of barrel. 6BR I believe is right on the money suggesting fairly generous number of rounds which makes the 6br such a good caliber not to mention its accuracy.
