Barrel life in 6BRA

Kind of a topic postscript. Eric Bostrom used my same reamer on the new barrel as on the old one. It had 1,670 rds when I gave it to him for replacement. I have not started breaking in the new one yet but have done some measurements.

Compared to the old barrel this one is .065" shorter in the throat. Hard for me to believe I had that much throat erosion but multiple test measurements were repeatable. Now the new barrel has not been fired. I am a bit busy but hope to get a few shots in the backyard the next week or so or it will be late November because Georgia hunting season is calling.

Sure would like to rechamber the old one just by cutting the tenon off and threading from there. It's a spare rifle I only use for steel or back-up. to the others. it has been a winner and shot right up to the end when I got tired chasing lands.

Had a Broughton that went to 2400 rounds in a 6BR 107's molly and put another 100 rounds through it to finish the season and the last hundred just fell apart.

So I have a barrel with 1,185 rounds on it. The last two 10 shot groups with it were right at 6” in some windy conditions. This was in a match at Hawks Ridge. This spring, I pulled the barrel because I didn’t have a second light gun as a backup. Now that I do. I will eventually end up screwing it back on. It has shot screamers but the current barrel is probably even better!

I am yet to wear one out.

Dave.

My first 6BRAI Krieger is now past 1800 rounds. @1500 rounds, had 2 threads cut and setback to sharpen the throat. Shot well at the last 600yrd match.
