6BR BARREL LENGTH

I'm going to run 2 barrels -1 for f-class 28' 260ai which I currently have but want something cheaper to run and easier on the barrel and with better off the shelf brass.I am thinking of 6mmbr but also want to run a short 20-22' barrel with a suppressor -my fun gun which burns less powder! What type of velocity could I still retain with a shorter barrel?i believe one can expect around 4000 rounds before getting a re-barrel ? 6mmbrx what barrel life could you expect and velocity 20-22' barrel?

Gosh, I am going to answer one of these questions before anyone.
I just tried some 6mmbr rounds in my rifle and found the bolt collecting and marking the shoulder -not good ! I don't know if I put a shim at the back of the mag if I would get the round further forward if this might help--has anyone tried this ?

I sent the Moderator a PM, this is his answer and I think it worth posting for others to to see also.

A: I don't think anyone can tell you for sure how much velocity you'll
lose from 28' down to 22' because it depends on your powder and the
bullet you shoot. However, we did one test, cutting a barrel from 33' to
28',five-inch reduction) and we lost 40 fps. That was shooting 107s
wiht H4895. We lost 8 fps per inch.

Since you'll be cutting even shorter, let's postulate 15 fps per inch,
or 90 fps loss from 28' to 22'. Keep in mind, however, I've personally
seen 120 fps difference from one barrel to another at the same lenght.

A: That may be generous. Depends a lot on your cleaning regimen and how
hot you load. 2500 should be very doable, and you might get more.

A: You'll be shooting 10% more powder. I know guys who have gotten to
the 2500 mark with 6BRX or Dashers. But, again, it depends on your load,
and the barrel itself.

A: You also talked about using a shim. You'll probably find you have to
modify the follower to get mag feeding for the short 6BR case. There are
guys who've done a successful conversion for a Remington magazine, but I
can't speak for the Accuracy International mag. I would not bet on it
working particularly well. But you can just single feed the gun.

You don't want to be building a 6BR on the small AI action. Mine is on a Sako AII and it doesn't feed from the magazine. Maybe it could be made to work but I haven't done it and don't know.
