6BR AR Upper

I am having a 6BR 1/8 twist upper built for my AR and was curious if anybody has done this and if so how it shoots. It will be throated to shoot the 105VLD and other similar size bullets. I will be shooting it single shot for the 600 yd matches and also when I go out west to shoot PD's. I don't know if anybody makes a mag. that works for the 6BR. Dtech is building it for me and he has bolts and barrel extensions that work for it. I don't intend to shoot any matches that require a mag, but if you know of one that would work let me know.

Jimmy

Jimmy, I am shooting off of the Bob Sled single shot and it works fine on the 6mmAR. You could check with Robert about a mag. I'm sure he can help.Bill

Jimmy: How does the 6br do in your ar? what kind of groups are you getting and at what range? I have a lower just asking to have something "different" done to it. And a 6br might be it

I don't have it yet. I am waiting for Dtech to build it and he had about 50 rifles ahead of mine about 6 weeks ago. It may be next year before I get it. But I hope not. But when I get it I will let you know how it shoots. I hope it shoots like a 6BR should.

Jimmy

Jimmy, Did you check out the bob sled single feed block to see if you would be able to shoot single-shot from it? Bill

What is the Bob Sled? I thought you were talking about some sort lead sled like Caldwell makes.lol But I don't have the upper yet to try anything.

Is it a modified mag?

Jimmy

Jimmy, the Bob Sled is a block of Delrin that is designed for AR's for single-shot mode that slides into the mag holder. It has a pin installed in it to allow the bolt to stay open after every shot. Sinclair and Brownells both carry them and probably some other companies. I purchased one for my .223 and it will also work in my 6mmAR. I would suspect that it would work in the 6br too. It sells for about 40.00 but it is worth it. Hope this helps. Bill

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the info on the Bob Sled. I have a mag with a single shot follower in it that I use for my .204 AR. That may work for the BR, I hope. I just worry about the AR dinging and scratching up that high dollar Lapua brass. I talked to Dtech and my upper is getting close to the build stage. Maybe it will show up in time for Christmas.

Jimmy

Yea Man, that is the only drawback to the AR-15. It will dent the brass for sure. My .223 and my 6mmAR both ding it but I guess that is the price we pay for having the auto capabilities. I know you would love to get that thing by Christmas. Maybe with a little luck and a prayer it'll make it by then. Bill

You were not planning an shooting from mags were you?

I dont think even Grendel mags will feed the BR.

Hoser, I was looking at that too and I think he will just have to shoot from his follower or get the "sled" and just go single-shot. Bill

Lucky for me I wasn't planning on shooting the 6BR from a mag. I will be shooting the prone 600 yd matches at my local club. When I go out west to shoot prairie dogs I will use it for the long shots just to see if I can get a few at 600 yds. or more.

Jimmy

They will shoot if you have a short throated reamer, seat to 2.3" and use PRI 6.8 mags. May still require a little tweeking though.

Are you planning on cutting the rims down on the brass to PPC dimensions? If you do, you can use a 7.62x39 bolt.

Opening up a 223 AR bolt to a 308 bolt face isnt going to leave much meat for the lugs.

Sorry to keep throwing you curve balls.

Hoser if you read my original post it says that Dtech has bolts and barrel extensions that will work for the 6BR. They are made for the larger case, so they have enough meat in the areas that need it. If he did not have the parts I would have gone with a 6mmAR or a 6MM WOA. So no curve balls needed.

Jimmy

The single feed block sounds like a winner.

Does the HB Nat. Match Colt AR15 Lower have Large pins that will work with all Uppers?

I may have to purchase RR lower...? Regular or Match trigger?...Or can RR Match Triggers be improved upon?

The AR upper with bolt handle for single round loading?......Insert single round and let gas extract case?Or can gas be closed for single shot operation?

Sorry. I was not aware that anyone was making them.

Just didnt want to see you sink a bunch of $$$ in a go nowhere project.

No problem Hoser, I think the lack of bolts and barrel extensions in the past is why there are not more 6BR AR's. I just hope it shoots almost as good as a bolt gun. I hope to have it soon so I can find out.
