6br and W748

Good question....and I'm hoping someone comes forward with some responses. I sure like the way it meters!

Just curious, what size bullets did you have in mind?

I did note that Hodgdon on their load data website don't list W748 as a powder recommended for the 6BR.

It works, burns somewhat dirty, Hodgdon has it on their can of BLC2 for the 6 Br ,I believe, which some have the opinion the BLC2 and 748 are the same, i do not know, but 748 will work.

gmorganal............wondering ?
"but I've only used it with lighter bullets"

with my 14tw in 6Br... i only shoot like 68gr bullets .. whats the recomended minium-maxium for the W748... ?

it does meter well

thanks.......

ww748 my go to load for 52gr amax 22-250..meters like sand..temperature sensitive..seems to shoot in hot weather..no so much in cold weather

Given the difficultly of finding Varget, I have now switched over to W748 in my 6 BRs with excellent results as far as accuracy goes. If I was shooting in the .1s or .2s or .3s with a particular gun or barrel with Varget, I am getting almost the exact same results with the W748. I am on the front end of this transition, so I haven't really compiled velocity comparisons yet, but I will try to post them when I get around to that.

I have been shooting heavy bullets (e.g.,107 SMKs, Berger 105 Hybrids, 108 ELDMs) at targets from 100 yards to 1,000 yards, and have worked up to the same 30 grain loads I used with Varget without pressure signs or problems (OF COURSE, DO NOT START AT 30 gr with your gun, start at 28 or so and work safely up to your max load as long as YOUR gun is not showing any pressure signs or other problems.)

Bottom Line: VERY HAPPY with the W748 so far; you may want to experiment with it yourself

an old thread but certainly one that applies today — thanks for bringing it back AR10- i have some 748 and probably wouldnt have tried it in 6br otherwise inless you had posted. Now if i can find more 748— thats the rub

Gonna have to give it a try in my 6BRX soon.
Inquiring minds want to know. I have always heard 748 is good in one of the following but not both.....cooler temps or warmer temps. Don't remember which way it was.Edit follows....Sitting here thinking about it, I started in bench rest with a factory Win m70 Varmint in .222. Shot 748 with 50 gr Nosler BTip from below zero at some winter matches to hot humid August days. The gun always shot very good, better that a factory gun should. Like lot of the temp bs I have read over the years I guess. When I test I often find what is said is just that...bs.
