6BR and Varget?

Please don't shake yer head at me, this is gonna sound rookie-ish. :-[ I load for 12 other rifles, but I'm entering new territory here. ;D

It seems to me most of the info on this site, 6BR loads is OLD. I just built my first 6BR, and broke in the barrel with mild(?) loads. Now I'm gonna start load development.

Lapua brass, Varget, Rem 7-1/2 BR primers, and 105 VLD's. Jam plus .005"

I'm loaded up from 29.6 to 30.4, in 2/10 gr increments, ready for the range.

Am I missing something on the bottom or the top? How high should I be looking to go? I'm gonna take the chrono with me, but at 5 degrees F, it's only gonna give me a general idea. I'll watch for the usual signs too.

But, what are you guys that are shooting 6 BR's nowadays shooting on the top end for charge? If you don't want to give me your secret load, should I be loading a bit higher in charge weight? Thanks for helping out.

Almost like your loads, My 6BR likes Lapua brass, varget (28.8 gr) in my casy, Rem 7-1/2, and 105 VLD's jumped 20/1000's. I tested no further after it shot 5 shots I could cover with a dime at 300 yds and followed it up doing it again with that work up

So, another case where some VLD's worked better jumping a bit. Good to know. As was stated earlier, I'll find what looks like a good charge (and hopefully some good chrono numbers), and then mess with seating depth.

Have any of you guys found that VLD's shoot better than Hybreds, after trying both, in your particular rifle?

I myself haven't even tried the Hybreds. My rifle shot the VLD's so well I looked no further for improvement, especially as I'm a sling shooter. I'm making this barrel last as long as possible.

I also use the rem 7 1/2's with great results. Dont worry about what others are shooting. If they prove too much with the varget try it again with a cci or wolf.

The 7-1/2's are working fine. Two accuracy nodes with Varget. One at 29.8gr and another at 30.4. Both are in the mid 3's, but it looks like there should be room for a little improvement. I'll start messing with seating depths now, and see if I can tighten things up a little more.

Chrono numbers seated jam plus .005" were nothing special. SD on both those loads are 12...

Hi guys what powder charge are you using with Berger 95gn VLD (Molly) and varget?

With my 105 hybrid (Molly) I run 31.0gr of Varget 20 thou off lands with BR4 primers
Just did a ladder test yesterday shooting 95 gr. HVLD's. Started low @ 28.4 gr. Varget. Worked up in .2 increments to 31.0 gr. Ambient temp was only 40 to 45 degrees. Using Lapua brass & 7 1/2 Rem. primers top MV was 2863. Was working a hunting load up, so was testing at .005" off the lands. No moly. Absolutely no signs of pressure, but remember that the ambient temperature was quite cool.

Backed off a bit...to just touching the lands. Dropped the 30.2 gr down to into the 2's.

Hybrids are shooting almost 1/2 that, at .012" off. ;D I think I'll stick with Varget.

This is gonna be fun. ;)
