6BR and N540

I just purchased a nice used 6BR and the fellow I bought it from was nice enough to give me his best load, which was N540 and the Berger 105VLD.

Now the question is I've heard in the past that N540 was a barrel burner, so I searched this and other forums and came up with the jury's still out. That was then so how about now? Do any of you have any experience one way or the other?

Danny: I can't speak to the BR as I don't own one, but I have shot several thousand rounds of .223 loaded with N540 and have not experianced any greater barrel erosion problems than using R15 which I use in my service rifle. I currently shoot a 6mmAR which is close to the 6mmBR in case capacity and use N540 with a Berger VLD 105, but only have 800+ rounds through it but no abnormal erosion seen so far. I really like the N540 powder. It shoots clean, meters well, gets higher velocities than R15 or Varget with similar loads, but it with large flash holes it works better with magnum primers. I do however get my best groups with the 6mmAR with BR4 primers so the hot primer thing may not apply to the smaller flash hole size of Lapua brass. Bob
