6BR and Bart's Avenger / Ultra... powder choice?

You will like the Varget way better. I tried all the others and Varget shoots far better in both my 6br's 1-8 & 1-12 twist. 32-35gr in the 1-12 Although 33.2-33.4 is the sweet spot. 29-30gr for the 1-8 twist 29.6 is the sweet spot, 1-12 is in the low 2's and the 1-8 is in the low 1's. That's as good as I am. If I was better they would probably be less in size. The only thing I use the N135 for is the 80gr bullets in the 1-12 gun.
I ran into issues with Varget before and kinda gave up using it. Soon as you would get a load the powder would change, got tired of chasing my tail with it. I have about 3 pounds on hand but fear working up a load with it because soon I'll need more and it will be different. Here lately it has been worse than the normal lot to lot changes?

I buy them in 8lb kegs and have used 3 or 4 different lots with no change and haven't seen any problem what so ever. I have 2 8lbs =16# that I am using now both have different lot #'s the they both shoot the same no difference at all. And the 6br doesn't take a lot of powder so I am good for a long time as they are the only rifles I use Varget in.

I'm having good results in VFS with LT-32 in my 12 twist; also worked great in my 14-twist ratchet rifled barrels by Shilen. 29-ish grains with CCI magnum or BR primers. YMMV of course.

For light bullets don't overlook H322 and H335.
Tried H322 with some Berger bullets I have and could not get anything to group the way I think it should. H335 seems to do well with magnum primers but alas no more H335 on my shelf! However A did manage to latch onto 4 pounds of TAC which is real close to H335 and cleaner burning ( so I've been told)

So with 8208XBR on the shelf I went with that. Done some testing before with lighter Berger bullets so with info given I did a brief test. Compared the 68gr flat base to the boat tails and shot this at 200yds.
Looks like a sweet spot for the flat base at 32.3gr and the boat tails at 32.1gr. There was a great group with awesome numbers for the boat tails at 32.6 but it was giving me tight bolt lift.IMG_20210707_083704.jpg

Your gun is shooting , but you’re getting caught by the wind. Are you using flags?
Bart
Edit- Also back your loads down. Just because you can shoot close to 3500 doesn’t mean you need to. Back your loads down to 3350 to 3450 and I think you’ll see more consistent results.

No flags, couldn't figure out the wind even if I had them. Our range has a really weird setup being down in a hole with an open chute from the west where the targets are. There have been days that your target will completely disappear behind the berm because the wind pushes on the elevator frames and causes them to lower. Soon as the wind lets up they come back up, freaks people out during a match. Real PITA in my opinion but NRA won't let the club change them?

If you’re going to shoot little groups you have to have and know how to read windflags. Also I think you’ll see more consist results if you drop your load down between 3350 and 3450.

We tried flags at our range once, a member brought a set to a varmint match so we set them up about every 75 yards or so from the 300 yard line. It was comical trying to figure them out blowing 3 different directions at the same time.
Will check into the load because I have a load with Berger 64gr bullets that shoots pretty good at 31.7gr of 8208XBR. Going down is easier on brass life anyway. Thanks for the advice, anything to help me is a plus.

A flag out every 75 yards is pretty much worthless. Put 3 flags out at a 100 and you’ll learn and see what I’m talking about. I’ve shot Benchrest matches all over the United States and overseas on every kind of range conceivable. Never seen a range yet that windflags didn’t work. I’m not going to keep pressing the point, but I promise you your range isn’t the exception.
