coyotekiller

I need a good load for a 10twist 272nk broughton 3c. I am wanting to shoot the 75gr vmax for coyotes and have Varget, N133 and H322 on hand. I shot a few rounds the other day with varget from 29-33gr and was less than pleased. I loaded a few more with varying seating depths but have not got a chance to shoot them. Any experience with this bullet/powders combos out there would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have had good luck in my 1-10 twist lilja, using 30.3 grains of 135 with the 75 max, 30 grains of varget also worked well. My best luck seems to be H4895 behind 80 gr bergers, The 75 vmax & 77 lapuas shot so well I couldn't tell much difference. Remington 7 1/2 or CCI 450 primers seemed to be the best primer choice for me. Whack a few coyotes for me, Coyote & wolfing time is coming up for me Good Luck

well the load of 32.4gr of varget with Fed205m did not work out even with seating the from .015 out to .015 in. These are all 4 sot groups. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a375/coyotesmoke/DSCN0070.jpg

What is the distance...if it is 500-600 your fine...if it is 100!!!! sumthin is terribley wrong....I dont know how to get a BR or deer rifle to shoot like that ...is this a custom gun or a what ..there has to be something loose or broken or obvious wrong.....is the bbl floating--or not tite in the action..??....scope loose or broken...check out evrything....I dont think it is the load....Roger
EDIT//// I looked at that target some more...at first I thought the groups were 2 inches ++++...but even after catching my breath ...several still look like 1.500" or worse.....the worst bullet out there and powder charges measured with a tea spoon will shooot better....keep looking ...there is something mechanical wrong....I think!!!????!!!!

GROUPS ARE AT 100 YDS!!!The red dots are 1/2". All loads are under 1" except for one which is about 1 1/4". But your right they are horrible, thats why I asked about the bullet in my barrel. I just got this 6br and it's my first. The rest of my rifles shoot very well, so this one stumped me when it shot like this. It is bedded and torqed to 60in lbs. Rings and bases are tight and scope came off another rifle that shoots great. ????????

I may have found part of the problem. When I last put the barrelled action back in the stock the mag box did not drop into the recess on the floor plate. The floor plate and mag box were in a tight bind against the bottom of the action. We'll see.

ooooooo yea...if the magazine box is in a bind or touching the floor of the magazine cutout in the stock...it will kill accuracy....I put one together once and the "Z" spring that keeps the follower in the mag...was sickin under the mag box and caused evry thing to be in a bind....the gun shot terrible.......dont give up ..it will be something very simple ...
OBTW.,,, try 75 grn Sierra varmint bullets...or 90 gr Berger...I have a cupla BR's that will shoot em pretty good...and I use that cursed Rx-15...keep the pressure up and it will burn clean...some floks start out so low during their load development that they get poor ignition and they think it wont burn clean...and with the low velocity they have bad results with their accuracy, powder wont burn rite!!) and sometimes the bullet wont stabalize because they arent pushin em fast enuf and they give up.....with a 10 twist I'd use them 90 Bergers or 85 grain Sierra HPBT"s,,,remember you can turn em around with the BT's foreward to save the fur.!!!)))....these are good hunting bullets and very accurate.....I know you coyote hunters want to save the fur....bak east here we are so happy just to kill one of em ...we dont care if we have to line up the two halves for the photo..!!!!! hahahaha.......Roger
PS,,I shoot nuthin but Krieger Bbls at the present ...but Tim North has his act together...dont worry about the bbl....keep looking for something loose or in a bind....you are on the trail of the problem,,,,gettin all the bugs out is half the fun...once you get a 6BR up and runnin ...there is nothing better or more fun to shoot....seat any and all bullets up against the rifleing ...just about .010" longer that where they first touch...not hard enuf to cause the gun to rock when U close the bolt...and not hard enuf to stik the bullet in the lands....use lots of neck tension ..,bushing .003 smaller than a loaded rnd.)...that bbl shuld shoot any thing up to 100gr non VLD+/- great,,,and the lil' 68 BR botique bullets tooooo...

I was looking at your target that you shot yesterday and I too would be disappointed with most of those groups. However the group you fired by seating the bullets 2.805 seems pretty good minus that 1 flyer. Was that your first shot? Did you pull it? How was the wind blowing? Regardless, it does seem like you are getting quite a bit of vertical stringing. The quick fix for this would be to switch primers and see if that has any effect. See if you can pick up a pack of BR-4's or 400's. I have been using both with good results with varget.

It sounds like everything is in order as far as the rifle assembly and scope assembly. I am going to assume your loading technique is good and exact, read exact powder amounts and low runout). If I were you, i would suggest loading the same load back, seating out to 2.805 and then to 2.810,if you can go that long...which i can in my 6mmbr). See if that has any effect on accuracy. You could also drop .5 grains and see how that shoots. Some rifles just don't like it hot and I'm pretty sure that's a near max load if not the max load. If that fails, pick up some match bullets,in the 80 gr weight range) and load a couple. If they won't shoot...something is wrong elsewhere with the rifle and it isn't you.

I am shooting 33 grains varget w/ the 75 grain Vmax, CCI primer, .010 in the lands and I get great accuracy. I never had to look past varget with this rifle. The 5 shot group on the gong is @ 550 yards.
