Is anyone using the 75 Gr Sierra varminters in a 6BR? I have a 14 twist barrel and I would like to try them but I don't know where to start. Right now I am using 70 Gr Sierra Blitz Kings over H322. Can you guys give me some ideas?
Thanks,
Bob

bobinpa,
I have an XP-100 6 BR w/ a 16" barrel, 1:14" twist and 0.262 neck. I'm not a competitive shooter, using mine for prairie dog hunting and recreational shooting. Last year I used Hornady 65 gr V-Maxes. When production of that bullet was temporarily put on hold, I had to use something else. I ended up using the 75 gr Speer HP and the 75 gr Sierra HP. On my pd hunt, I didn't get to shoot very many of either, but both performed well. My load for the 75 gr Sierra uses 6BR Lapua brass, Remington 7 1/2 primer and 29.0 gr of LT-32 at 3000 fps. Using a Burris 3-12X handgun scope, 3 shot groups at 100 yds run 0.4-0.5". I perfer Vihtavuori 133 and 135 because of their reduced muzzle blast, but I couldn't find any so I used LT-32.

Bob,
I have found IMR 8208 XBR to be a great powder in 6BR for the 70-80 Grain bullet weights. With the 75 GR., start around 30.0 Grains and work up carefully in 2 tenths gr increments. Somewhere around 31.5 will probably be about max....The 75 Gr .Varminter has a fairly long bearing surface compared to the 70 Gr. Blitzking so work up with caution......

I have 14 twist 6BR Kreiger barrel chambered by Kelbly. It's been a while since I shot some of my favorite bullets because of availability. Based on shooting one 5 shot group with Sierra 75 gr. Hollow Point #1510 the group was a little over 1 inch. The rifle normally shoots about .260-.350" groups if I hold decent. 85 Sierra BTHP the group was over 10 inches. Several bullets that my rifle likes. Sierra 70 MK, Sierra 70BK, Hornady 58 & 65 Vmax. None of these are in the stores now. Never tried Nosler or Speer. I am shooting bullets I bought early last summer. I may have to resort to shooting some custom match bullets if the shelves are still empty. I find accurate loads with RE-15 powder easily. 8208 & H322 give more velocity. Went to the range two days ago. 58 Hornady VMax 34.1 gr RE-15 fills the neck half way up, 3454 fps. I have shot this bullet at 3600 I think it was with H322.

Just learned how to eliminate wobble on the target after 40 years of shooting. I am left handed I squeeze the bag with my right hand with my elbow and and upper arm hanging off the bench. I rotated my arm so my entire arm is on the bench. Rock steady hold on the target I shot a 7 shot group with .252" vertical. I am 6'1'' and it feels awkward turning my arm that much but it works. Always knew my bigger groups were my fault and not the rifle but I didn't know what to do about it. The bench seats are to high for me. I can hardly wait to get to the range and try to shoot nothing but small groups. A lot of ammo was wasted evaluating loads because of my poor bench technique. It was fun even if I made the groups bigger than they should be.

I shoot AA2230, it is faster than anything that I have tried, and unreal accurate! Use a thick cup primer or Tula. You will be very happy with AA2230 from 55g-75g!

I'm getting nice groups with 75 Sierras and 31.5 grains of Varget in a 13.5-twist 6BR.

I shot a few through my 1 in 12 twist Savage and they did as well as the 68 Bergers that I normally shoot, and cost a whole lot less. I was using around 30 grains of Benchmark if I remember correctly.
