6BR and 6BR IMP Records and Wins ?

I shoot fast once I decide to go.. I have sat there quite some time waiting though.. sometimes the pick up is better than the let offs also. I sat and waited for it to blow once last year actually. I looked over and Derek was the only other doing the same. It paid off, but is risky.

Tom, I picker not a runner most of the time…… jim

I have shot MORE than my fair share of 8's because I put windage in and missed the drop, which came JUST as I was pulling the trigger... That's exactly why I put in ONLY the amount of windage I need to, to stay on the target..

Ours was a tail, and the sighters during let downs you would've thought the gun broke. I let the sighter period dictate my decision there. Your decisions are yours, I've been wrong I've been right.

Tom

It is a "crap-shoot" trying to guess exactly what the wind has intentions of doing.. I try to play it safe BECAUSE I am NOT the best long-range shot on the market! As a matter of fact, I am on the lower side of "middle of the road" if that makes sense... LOL!!!

I have only shot Fclass once and I'm not the best at reading the wind and only at 600 but it was fun and is way different. And like Jim said I think a Dasher would be competitive at 1k with a good wind whisper.

Personally, I shoot a Dasher at 300 and 600...It's accuracy and "wind-bucking" ability at those yardages make it a TOP-FLIGHT competitor.. ANY accurate cartridge in the hands of someone who can almost "flawlessly" read the wind, a cartridge like the 6mmBR would be VERY difficult to beat at ANY range. But I am not that person, and as now, I have not met that person. That's why heavy, ultra-high B.C. bullets can HELP, to a significant degree, when the wind is howling and acting like it does down here on the Gulf Coast. However, you are ABSOLUTELY correct in your assertion that if we could read the wind to an EXCEPTIONAL degree, a 6mmDasher would be almost impossible to beat.

You BR guys claim the Dasher is the best BR cartridge ever because it holds most of the BR records? Well, it's hard to argue with that, so I would have to agree.

But then, if you look at LR F-Class, I'm almost positive the Dasher holds NO records. So, by the same criteria, wouldn't the 7mm's holding all the records be considered the best?

It makes sense that if a great FClass wind reader could shoot a 6Dasher or 6BR well, they sure would shoot well with something with higher BC and better wind drift. Or at least that is my thought

Why professional golfers don't use Walmart golf clubs or balls. Sure they could and most likely do better than we ever could do, but give them custom balls and clubs and they really will show us how to play golf ;D

When i was learning to shoot and read the wind in the service ,shooting team matches was where you really learned. All the BS was separated and you could see the your mistakes in a call. I would put on what i was told and marked what i thought down also and i soon learned the what and how of it. I was always watching the other shooters hit and at the same time i was watching the condition on how it affected him and it sure gave me an idea what was going on. Then the coach told you what to put on and soon you were on the same page and you were learning. I know you can take that to F class and do well, even with a dasher. If you do your part it sure will do it's part……. jim

Johara, I agree with you, but I believe you are under the assumption that there are no good wind readers in F-Class. Believe me, we have some of the best, and the Dasher has seen no success in LR F-Class, eventhough many have tried.

Most of the ones who have tried are BR shooters like yourself, but they soon learn their mistake and either switch to a bigger gun or are seen less at big F-Class matches.

I guess it's the same reason the 6PPC is not seen at LR BR matches. ;)

F-Open and BenchRest shooting are 2 very different competitions. Both have rules / concepts made for their respective disciplines. The best analogy I can give is this: There are 2 MAIN car racing disciplines out there 1.) Drag racing and 2.) NASCAR racing. The BEST cars and drivers in each of those competitions could NOT cross over and be the best at the others unless and until they got with the type and style of vehicle inherent to that style of race. That does NOT make the "drag car" better or worse than the "track car" it is simply different. And I think that Eric's idea IS CORRECT, that some of the BR guys try and take what works in their respective LONG RANGE disciplines and try to make it work in LONG RANGE F-Open. It will work BUT you will not be as successful as using the proper equipment for the task at hand. This is NOT a "slam" at BR or any other discipline, you simply have to make the transition over in order to be successful. If this were not true, the 6MM Dasher would hold most of the records in F-Open and that is simply NOT THE CASE.. There is a good reason for that...

Eric and Ben,Maybe since F open is the hardest and the best shooters with these big guns maybe you could come over to bench rest and give us a lesson on how these big boomers work. ……. jim

Jim, I wanted to do benchrest BEFORE I went to F-Open. There are NO L/R Br matches anywhere near where I live. There is one north of me that hold BR matches at 600 yard "from time-to time" but he is 2+ hours away.... I live about 50 mins away from Bayou Rifles where I shoot F-Open.. If there were BR matches near me, I would try that discipline out>>> And I would try and make the transition over to the equipment that works for those guys..

My point is they try them and use them at 1K BR. and they get blowed around the same as anything. the big 338's should rule the roost but they don't same as the 7's and 300's. wind is the same for all but i can't see where it is determining factor because it has less wind drift but it doesn't shoot as small. so you shoot a big gun to beat the conditions and give up accuracy…….. i thought that is what it's about?……. jim

Guys,

I am looking the see how many Records, the 6BR and 6BR IMP have shot in 600 and 1000yd benchrest, IBS, NBRSA, Williamsport, etc. Also other match like Fclass, Egg Shoots, Steel shoots, etc. Let me know what you were shooting and what it did.

I will start it out. I have 3 IBS Records, HG Agg score 203 8X ( old target ), HG single target score 54 4X 1.944' ( retired record on old target ), LG small group 0.749" all shot with a 6BRX with Berger's 105.

I have 6 wins at the Roanoke in the main event and 7 Egg wins at 500yds shot with 6BR and 6BRX.

I shot a Overall win and a clean 7 shots for 7 Targets at www.bangsteel.com with a 6BRX Bat action.

What have you shot?

Mark Responding to the question YOU ask. Our 8'' steel gong matches at 1000 YD
2011 1place unknown 2 dasher 3 dasher 4 unknown 2012 1 place dasher 2 dasher 3 dasher? or260 AI 4 dasher. 2013 1 300wsm 2 dasher 3 dasher. The record of the most hits a 1000YD is 14 hits out 15 shots held by a dasher. 585 YD at 5'' gong is the record is 40+ hits in A Row their was two shooter tied first one run out of bullets with 38 straight hits. the winner shot till he run out he was well in the 40 tys. My numbers could be incorrect but it was insane. They both had dashers. I don't have the results on our shoot but I would guess close to 80% or better at range have ben won by 6 mm or improved 6mm. Dasher is probably ahead. When we first started it was dominated by the big guns 338 and the 300. then the 260 AI took over 4 year ago a few of us started with the small 6hot rods. 6mm 6brx 6 dasher 6cm. The man who had dominated the sport with a high BC gun. Told me along with others. High BC will hardly ever win over accuracy. When we shoot we spot and tell the other shooter where his impacts are. By doing that we can learn off his impacts. When you see a 300 wsm shoot hi left and the guy with a dasher shoots the same spot. That pretty much tells me BC isn't everything. I will try to go back and find the results in the last three years. Larry

Jim, you very aptly stated the conundrum! You absolutely hit the nail on the head. The BR discipline is geared more towards PURE accuracy. Tiny "screamer" groups are what you are seeking. F-Open needs accuracy also, BUT we are more geared towards the smallest "vertical" possible with ENOUGH accuracy to stay inside the "X" ring, IF we could read the wind out there correctly. Since nobody can read the wind to that degree, staying INSIDE the 10 ring becomes paramount. You (The BR Guys) try and get as close to the "X" ring as you can>> BUT group size becomes paramount (if I have my concept of BR correct).. That is the BIG difference... The "goals" of the 2 disciplines are slightly different>>>but significant enough to warrant different calibers..

More food for thought. It's somewhat of a different story when you talk sling shooting.
Kent Reeve is the current 1000 yd iron site record holder, 200-17x. He shot this score on 4 separate occasions shooting a 308 with the old style Serria 155's! With sling shooters larger, more powerful rounds don't always lead to better scores due to the fatigue factor when shooting higher recoiling loads.

Guys,
Let's keep on track for this post. Keep it for records and match info for 6 BR and 6Br Imp

To compare 1k bench to f class is ridiculous. Anybody that cant understand the differences Needs to read up. Be open minded. I have a tremendous respect for both disciplines. Like comparing oranges to apples. Sounds like someone is trying to feed there head again.
