Guys,

I am looking the see how many Records, the 6BR and 6BR IMP have shot in 600 and 1000yd benchrest, IBS, NBRSA, Williamsport, etc. Also other match like Fclass, Egg Shoots, Steel shoots, etc. Let me know what you were shooting and what it did.

I will start it out. I have 3 IBS Records, HG Agg score 203 8X ( old target ), HG single target score 54 4X 1.944' ( retired record on old target ), LG small group 0.749" all shot with a 6BRX with Berger's 105.

I have 6 wins at the Roanoke in the main event and 7 Egg wins at 500yds shot with 6BR and 6BRX.

I shot a Overall win and a clean 7 shots for 7 Targets at www.bangsteel.com with a 6BRX Bat action.

What have you shot?

Yep Chip used Marks heavy Dasher. Mark loaded them and they had homemade custom bullets, all Chip had to do was pull the trigger.

Richard Schatz has more that I can count.

Here is my one and only.

My 5 IBS records are all with Brux 4 groove barrels……… and all are with in the last two years……. jim

crazy how accurate these calibers are. Why don't they do well in Fclass? Is it the speed at which these BR groups are shot vs the time it takes to get a target pulled/marked in Fclass

6mmDashers do very well in F-Open>>>BUT in 300-600 yard competitions. When you shoot at 1000 yards and shoot 20 shots for record, NOT including sighters, other factors begin to come into play. 1.) Rapidly changing winds BOTH in velocity as well as direction; 2.) Barrels shooting 20+ shot shot-strings, causes some barrels to begin to "walk" to some degree>>>>this exacerbates the ever present wind problem. Take those 2 LARGE idiosyncrasies that are integral to F-Open and you have 2 VERY different competitions. In F-Open you need 1.) accuracy; 2.) H-I-G-H B.C. bullets and 3.) Speed... These 3 components are necessary to win at 1000 yards in F-Open. You only have 2 of 3 necessary "legs" in the Dasher to be a consistent winner in 1000 yard F-Open>>>it lacks the HEAVY / VERY HIGH B.C. bullets... I shoot a Dasher in 300 and 600 yard F-Open and T-Rust me, it is very difficult to beat at those ranges. However, beyond that, the BIGGER calibers have too much of an edge..

I really think we are programed to believe that you need the big cal. heavy bullets. Nothing beats a guy who can read the wind and doesn't get lazy and tries to force one or misses a change. I was watching at national at White horse, the big 30's were getting blowed as much or more than the Dasher. If you can read the wind on the last shot you should know what you need for the next. Most are looking for an edge, but getting hit wears you out, I don't believe for one minute that you can't compete in F class with a dasher if you do your part. …jim

I shot the NBRSA Three target Score Record in 09' (former recorld holder)with a 6mmBR...the 10 ring is ~2" and the X ring ~ 1"....145-4X out of 150 ....if you can read the wind ,,they will put em in the bullseye!!!!...I used virgin Lapua brass (champhered case mouths) Fed 205 primers,,,30.5 gr Rx-15 (droped with /culver measure,,NOT weighed) ,,,Berger 105 VLD's not sorted or measured in any way....Roger

Roger, You are Right, I know group is what everybody looks at. The group plus being in the middle is where it's at………….. jim

Jim,,,,you are rite,,,and my rifles will usually keep a waterline of ~1 1/2" at 600yds,,,,my targets usually reflect that ,,,the left-n-right is tuff to hold and keep in the middle,,,wink,,,,Roger

I am going to give y'all a real life scenario, then I am going to ask you a question: Three (3) months ago we had one of our 1000 yard shoots. The wind was running from right to left. The flags were straight out. Whether the wind was 12 or 20 you could not tell, as the flags were STRAIGHT OUT.. I was holding at the edge of the target (about 30" to the right) and I had 1.5minutes of wind cranked into the scope or I would have been aiming on the guy's target to my right! The wind was constantly gusting, then let off a bit>>>>but the flags would still be straight out. Now I had 1.5mins of wind cranked into the scope and was still on the edge of the target, my friend, who shoots a 7Walker was holding in the exact same place I was BUT he did not put ANY windage into his scope. The difference being his 180gr Hybrid at 2920 against my 140 Hybrid at a tad over 3000f.p.s. Now that you have an idea what we were shooting in, here is my question: How would you think a 6mm at "about" 3000f.p.s is going to compete in a competition like that under those conditions? If you do and if you can score what would be considered "High Master" scores, you would be the world record holder wherever you went and your notoriety might get you into the same position that David Tubb currently enjoys.. And that is W-A-Y better than I can or ever will shoot....

I don't know about Tom but I'm pretty sure Jim shoots slow with his Dasher not fast like most of us do. I think if Jim were to shoot Fclass he would do very well.

Does your scope only have 1.5 moa of windage travel?

Tom

Kinda what I was thinking. At the end of sighters I'm always centered up pretty good(now the group might be another story).

I think Jim would do VERY well in F-Open, even when the wind blows! I just think that when the wind blows he will be beaten by other EXCELLENT shooters that are using bigger calibers. I have little doubt he would be a formidable opponent, but when the wind would howl, and he would be up against Larry Bartholeme, Jon Myers, Steve Blair or Mark Walker, he would come up a tad short>> only because they would be driving bullets with B.C.'s up around .700!

The reason I did not put in more windage was because the wind would drop off on a dime. If my timing was a hair off, I would place the bullet in a worse position on the target than as little of adjustment as possible. If the wind was a steady blow, I could put in all the windage I needed>>> but when it gusts, then drops off just as fast as it's blowing, I choose to put in as little of windage as possible... My choice..
