6BR and 6 Dasher dies

I am going to build a 6 Dasher.

I have a set of 6BR dies.

Can I use the 6BR FL bushing die to resize the Dasher brass?

Can I use the 6BR seating die to load the 6 Dashers?

Thanks for your help.

you will not be able to resize the Dasher with the BR die. You possibly can get away with seating bullets. Just give it a try and measure for concentricity.

Go to Whidden Gun Works and order the 6 Dasher full length sizing die he has, it is a great die at a better price. As far as I am concerned John has lowered the cost of entry for some rounds like the Dasher and Shehane by making good quality dies and selling that at a great price.

Harrell's precision will also match a die time your fired case for a dasher just like they do for the BR and PPC.

The Harrell's dies will work fine. However, the Whidden dies are much better finished inside and out and the decapping rod holder is better and the lock rings are better.

If you are considering a Dasher, think about the 6mm BRDX. I have one. Getting 3000 fps with 105s and I have more neck to work with than a Dasher or BRX. The major reamer makers offer 6mm BRDX reamers: JGS, Manson, and PT&G. Here are 6BRDX groups with rounds loaded on the Whidden Dies. Top 3-shot group is mid-zero. Bottom 5-shot group has four of five in a low zero.

So, how does case forming work on the BR-dx? Is it more of just a load and shoot like an ackley then?

At suggestion of Sam Hall, I just load about 25 thousandths past "first touch" measured with a Hornady tool, with a lot of neck tension. I use 29.0 grains of Varget with a 105gr bullet. This formed the shoulder about 95% and worked as well as a higher charge. Shoulder fully forms out on second firing at 32.3 grains. I have a .270 chamber and I turn about 2/3 of the original 6mmBR neck to 0.267 before fire-forming.

Tom,

Cases were trimmed .002-.003 before neck-turning (to even out the long ones). Blow length is very consistent at 1.545-1.546 after two firings. Jam and shoot. I have a couple shorter @ 1.542-3 but I think those were trimmed a bit short.

Paul,
I have found with any of the 6br improved cases that it takes two and sometime three firings to be fully blown out 100% I talked with you sometime back about F-F with cream of wheat and I was way over on recommended powder charge to get it blown all the way out,..you told me it was way too hard on the cases to hammer on them like that and it wasn't necessary they would finish out close enough on the second firing, I played around every way there is and I found you were right about stressing them to much on the first firing, I now just jam and shoot same basically as you and Tom are doing and that works the best for me. If I go with the DX this year I will jam and shoot it as well. Tom/Paul are you F-F with a designated F-F barrel or are you just using your good barrels?
Wayne.

Tom,
I have been using a ff barrel for the brx but I think I won't on my next build I agree the barrels need a few rounds through it anyway :) Just got off the phone with Russ, I have two action on there way to Gilmore right now, getting excited, waiting for Kiff to call me back as we speak :)

when Dave calls remind him to have the darn thing cut a 1.555 length chamber.... we had talked about that but I somehow ended up with a 1.570. don't want to change mine now as I'm 2-2 with hammers on this reamer.

Tom

GRRRR!!! dang it,..he did the same thing with both!! of my brx dies, the first one was okay because I didn't know but the second I stated I wanted it 1.550 and it came 1.570 and I can't even come close to blowing them that far! thank's for the reminder though I will be sure to really make that a point, I never noticed a bad carbon ring or anything but it was always on my mind!!

Wayne,

when we talked last summer about my DX reamer, I was understanding that Dave was making them all 1.555 in this post "blue box" era.... but mine came 1.570,... it's not the end of the world, but it increases the likelihood of babysitting a carbon ring.

Tom

Tom,
I just got off the phone with Dave, ( he is always a pleasure to talk too ) anyway he said as far as the Dasher and BRX were probably getting Generic prints with our reamer because he finish the reamer at 1.555 +.05 for BR shooters and + .010 for varmint hunters for the blue box Lapua brass, that leave us about .010 clearance which is just about right, he was on the highway so I didn't order my new DX ream but he said he was making them and I am quoting him off memory so I hope I am not mistaking on any of this, but 1.550 on them because there a little shorter even yet,..He said someone had called and questioned about the long throats was that you? anyway have you actually measured your chamber length? sorry for asking I am sure you did but I am just curious? He also told me about a new cartridge he has been working on but I don't know if I should put it on the open forum, sounded like a true long Dasher from a creedemore case. later ;)
Wayne.

No he called me on his cell as he was leaving work, but I will call him in the a.m and he will get one out to me. anything I need to tell him other then what we have already discussed?

+1 Dennis on John's dies. That is what I did for my Dasher and it works great.
