Got invited to shoot prairie dogs this coming spring in South Dakota. Me being me Automatically starts thinking about a new rifle for this purpose. Good excuse anyway!! I have asked about 10 twist 6br's here in the past as this idea has interested me for quite some time. I have an action to use (BAT SV 308 BF RB LP ) I also have a stock that might work but thats a toss up. I may have to buy one. If i do have to buy a stock it will be a shehane st-1000 or a Mcmillan MBR. Anyway i will want to chamber the barrel for BIB 95gr bullets. I would like to be able to shoot the 95 bib FB and BT. What free bore will i need for the best performance with the BIB 95gr bullets. I contacted BIB as i figured i would just go to the source but Randy much be out of town for the Holiday. So what do you fellas think would be best? I figured somewhere around 80?? My 8 twist dasher is set up for 104 free bore and it works really well. My smith has a new PTG 6br reamer but it is also set up for 8 twist. Can i use the reamer with 104 free bore or should i have one made with a little less? Or rent one?? I would rather buy i think. Anyway i am just bored, so i thought i would see what kind of topic this would make. I dont know how the BIB bullets would do on Prairie dogs but i would suspect not so good, as far as expansion goes. Berger makes an 80gr and an 88gr Varmint bullet that might work pretty well. That being another reason why i wonder if i should go with a little less free bore? Thanks lee

". . . My 8 twist dasher is set up for 104 free bore and it works really well. . . ." lee

This - 0.104" freebore - is very near 'perfect' for the 95 Gr. BIB FB., and will also work well with the up-coming BIB 95 Gr. BT. ;)
Good shootin'! RG

lee: My 6BR 272 no-turn reamer also has .104" of freebore, that throat having been arrived at by Dave Kiff, Pacific Tool and Gauge, after I sent him a dummy round loaded with the 95 gr. Berger VLD seated with the full bullet dia. at the bottom of the case neck. I realize the ogive may be different from your 95 gr. BIB's, and to get a positive answer any quality reamer maker should be able to provide the required throat depth. It will also depend an leade angle, as was pointed out to me a while back. Kiff uses the standard 1 and 1/2 degree angle, but that's another point to consider.

Thanks Randy. This will work out really good as my smith already has the reamer!! Lee
