6BR 55-70gr POWDER CHOICE

I am wanting to put together a 6BR to shoot 55-70g bullets and I plan to go with a 24" barrel. I have ran some numbers in Gordon's reloading tool and have an idea of what powders to use, but I have some questions. Powder is still difficult to come by, but I can get Benchmark, N133, N135, and H335 . My only concern with these is the case fill and complete powder burn. According to Gordon's case fill is in the 100-105% with all of these powders, except H335, with the 55-70gr bullets. Also, Gordon's claims H335 and Benchmark are only 97-99% burned in a 24" barrel. I understand this is just software, but I would prefer to have 100% burn. I also don't want to run into a problem with a heavy compressed load. I'd like some real world experience with these powders and bullets and if they work well together without crunching powder too badly or not getting consistency from not fully burning. Any other advice or opinions on what powder to try would be appreciated as well. I would love to get some H322 or H4895 as they seem to offer excellent velocities, case fill, complete burn, and they're temp stable for whatever that's worth. Thanks!

NBRSA director, Gene Harwood sat a world record in the 80's with his 6 BR, shooting his own 60g bullets at 3700 fps with H335 and Rem 7 1/2's, 24" Max Heavy Varmint rig.

I have been using H335 and AA2230 ever since I met Gene. Best accuracy will be very close to peak pressure.

IN my 27" lilja 12T, zero freebore chamber, the 55g Noslers are doing 3900 fps at their accuracy node, I use a harrells' die to size with, and on occasion use a redding small base body die after many firings on the brass. In the calm, groups at 300 yards are around 3/4".

H335 and AA2230(xterminator) are particularly easy on throat wear, and H335 is available right now.

55's in several barrels have not liked a bullet jump. I am about to try the Hornady 58's, I hope they work.

This question has come up a few times......55 grain NBT’s, 55 SBK’s or 58 grain VMAX......shot many thousands of these bullets in numerous barrels (12-14 twist) with zero freebore chambers.

AA2230, Reloder 7 and sometimes H335 or H322.....once N133, but normally either AA2230 or RL-7.....these powders will usually hammer little tiny groups @ 3800fps with ease.

Literally have a stack of 5 shot group targets shot at 300yd’s that a quarter will completely cover those groups. However many are nickle size.........all shot in a variety of conditions.....of course some larger when it’s blowing too much.

The targets remind me with each new chamber what loads to try first.....Nevertheless I’m not you & your not me.....you may have satisfactory results with Varget for all anyone else knows. I like to run my 6BR’s at the upper end of the pressure range.......maximum repeatable splat factor is the goal.

Enjoy the Day!!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions! A local shop to me has some H322 in stock. Is that worth picking up or should I order one of the other suggested powders? Thanks

On p. dog towns, I ran 300 round shot strings with H335, 125 round shot strings with H322 which was an old lot#. H322 is more stable in the temp swings, so loading a top end load with H335 is Not a good thing as with most ball powders.

Barrel life is half with 322, compared to 335...you can take that to the bank.

AR-Comp if you can find it.
Bruno’s has it. So does precision reloading. Bruno’s is 315.00/8 pounders. PR is 393.00/8 pounders.
